I would like to upgrade my camera. I currently have a J1 that is about 7 years old. I mainly shoot my kids playing sports - lacrosse and football. The surroundings can be inside, daytime or night under turf lights. I do like the size of the Sony a6300 but have been told it wont perform well under the lights, at least as good as a DSLR would. Do you have any suggestions or advise on a camera that would fit my needs? Thank you.

I had a Nikon S1 and J1 also. Still have the S1. I bought a used Nikon 1 V1 camera from KEH and I love it. It is with me 90% of the time and other 10% I am using my Nikon DSLR. I recommend you check the V1 out. I think you will be impressed.

** Makes perfect sense, so why are there so many mirrorless cameras for sale that lack viewfinders? Could this be the solution?

A simpler fix.

There are various shading devices you can put over the LCD screen to take care of that problem.

Anyone who has done business with these folks, I would like to hear of your experience.

I have done business with them on numerous occasions. Both buying and selling. They are flawless and right up there with B&H and Adorama.

I can't afford the new one, but the previous version looks like it performs well. Would put on my D7200 or new D500.
and plus or minuses?

I have one on my Nikon D50 for backup. Never comes off except for cleanings.

Hi. I was premature in my hope to buy a camera soon ... other expenses have preempted that for a while. Are there any useful discussions, tutorials, etc. on how to use my cellphone to learn some good (newbie) photography principles in the meantime? To, say, take *better* photographs, instead of taking poor or average photographs, and then to store them on my phone or computer for later review and possible editing or discarding? Thanks!

Others have pointed out the Value of using a full function camera for learning Photography. Used older entry level DSLR's are going for a song. My Son just picked up a Nikon D-50 on Ebay for less than $40.00. It is a full function DSLR and he has taken amazing pictures with it. If I were you that's the way I would go until I could save up and get the Camera I wanted.

I was browsing Craig's List and ran across someone selling a Canon Rebel (first gen) and asking $150! I have one of these first gen Rebels (only 6.3 MP resolution). It is a very rudimentary camera, but happened to be one of the first "under $1000" consumer cameras available on the market (decades ago). By today's standards it is not a very capable camera and I really doubt this person is going to get anywhere near $150. I have seen these very basic cameras for sale on Ebay for $25. I still have my Rebel but rarely use it for anything. I have toyed with the idea of having it converted to IR just for fun, but can't convince myself that spending the money for the conversion would be worth it with this camera. I just keep it for nostalgia.

My Nikon D50 would be in the same category as the Canon this entry is about. It is worth nothing if I were to sell it. I still use it along with my other cameras. It still turns out remarkable pictures if you don't crop or need enlargement prints. I bought it new and it has served me well over the years. Wouldn't think of getting rid of it.

There is no better one. It is only what you prefer. Go to a photography store and handle them yourself. Then make your decision.

Okay, I will admit it... I'm still shooting with a Nikon D40X and I absolutely love the thing. It's like an old battle axe. I've never had a single bit of trouble with it and still use the original battery which I just keep recharging. I know there are better, newer, nicer and more expensive Nikons out there, but I just refuse to give the thing up! It's like an old comfortable pair of boots, why change when it still shoots so well. Comments ?

I still shoot with my Nikon D50. Of course it's not wrong.

I want to purchase the Nikon 55-200 DX VR II lens for my Nikon D3300 Camera. Looking for any fellow Hedgehogs that may have experience and advice about this lens. I recently purchased my D3300 with the 18-55 DX VR II kit lens.
I realize it is not the "Top Choice", but I have limited funds to purchase a decent Telephoto lens for my interest in Landscape and Nature Photography. Your honest opinions please. Thanks.

I have that lens and it has served me well. After the purchase of my 18-200 VR lens the 55-200 has mostly stayed in my bag however. It is a kit lens but will readily suffice as your first telephoto lens.

I'm looking to purchase a used Nikon lens. I've priced it at B&H and also at KEH. Right now KEH is offering 15-30% off. Please comment on KEH...are they trustworthy???? Thanks....

Just received my Nikon 1 V1 Body today along with the dedicated flash that goes with it. Both were flawless like Brand New. This is the kind of service I have always gotten from KEH. I look nowhere else for Used gear.

yes buying only on free shipping days is the way to go, and the 39 cent lens that I just got was a film lens but it works nicely on my D800, on new lenses they are not cheap, along with the cheap lens I bought 2 more lenses one a 24mm sigma, and a 14mm sigma they were cheaper by 125.00 than the nearest competitor, a person just needs to shop the site and be willing to use a lens thats a couple to a few years old or the newest thing out there

Just received my Nikon 1 V1 Camera today. I did not pay shipping. Maybe I just lucked out.

I have been putting off upgrading to Windows 10 because:
1. I wanted to wait until the inevitable teething problems were sorted out and fixed.
2. There have been a lot of negative comments posted on various sites - including UHH - and horror stories.
But, as time is running out for the free upgrade I thought it time to upgrade my Windows 7 to Windows 10.

Results:
1. Auto update failed several times with 'cannot download' various components.
So I downloaded the ISO file and burnt it to disk, then - after backing up everything twice - I ran the disk and kept everything crossed.

2. The disk ran without problems and after a couple of hours I had a working Windows 10.
Much to my relief and occasional amazement, all my programs appear to run Ok - even my 17 year old Lotus suit - the only thing I had to change was the date format and where I like my files to be stored.

There will be a learning curve as several things are different and need to be worked out and got familiar with.
I was dissapointed that the MS ganes such as Solitare, Purble Place and especially Majong were missing but a quick look on Google turned up a free program that replaces these games on Windows 10.

MS Edge browser is OK but cannot accept add-ons so I am keeping Firefox as my main browser.

Win 10 uses Apps and there are scores of them - many free - in MS Store and the ones I have tried are generally very good.

Very please to say that Lightroom, Elements, Firestone and On 1 all work perfectly so there was virtually no disruption in my work flow.

Currently - I am pleased with the upgrade but there are many aspects of it I have yet to explore so will have to wait and see what unexpected foibles it has.

I installed Win 10 on my main computer and both my Windows tablets. Been using 10 for a couple of months and have no problem with it at all.
