Bit the Bullet with Windows 10.

I have been putting off upgrading to Windows 10 because:
1. I wanted to wait until the inevitable teething problems were sorted out and fixed.
2. There have been a lot of negative comments posted on various sites - including UHH - and horror stories.
But, as time is running out for the free upgrade I thought it time to upgrade my Windows 7 to Windows 10.

Results:
1. Auto update failed several times with 'cannot download' various components.
So I downloaded the ISO file and burnt it to disk, then - after backing up everything twice - I ran the disk and kept everything crossed.

2. The disk ran without problems and after a couple of hours I had a working Windows 10.
Much to my relief and occasional amazement, all my programs appear to run Ok - even my 17 year old Lotus suit - the only thing I had to change was the date format and where I like my files to be stored.

There will be a learning curve as several things are different and need to be worked out and got familiar with.
I was dissapointed that the MS ganes such as Solitare, Purble Place and especially Majong were missing but a quick look on Google turned up a free program that replaces these games on Windows 10.

MS Edge browser is OK but cannot accept add-ons so I am keeping Firefox as my main browser.

Win 10 uses Apps and there are scores of them - many free - in MS Store and the ones I have tried are generally very good.

Very please to say that Lightroom, Elements, Firestone and On 1 all work perfectly so there was virtually no disruption in my work flow.

Currently - I am pleased with the upgrade but there are many aspects of it I have yet to explore so will have to wait and see what unexpected foibles it has.

Ford finally bit the bullet and used colors other than black on their cars, too.

Just my experience, I did the free download for Win 10 and had many problems. One was not being able to add a website to my favorites. After about a month of this, I had my IT tech son-in-law back up all my files and installed the full version of Win 10 I had purchased...problems solved.

Definately - I have Daily Jigsaw, Daily Word Search and Daily Suduko on my favourite book marks bar. Starts the day off and fills in the 'unscramble brains' times.

Actually, MS is planning an update to Win10 coming out soon --- called the "Anniversary update" it will be release at the end of July.

It will, however, be a free update for those with Win 10.

I downloaded 10. Backed up my Win 7 on 5 dvd's but when I tried to download them on Win 10 the first disk went ok!, however when it asked for disk #2 and I installed it, it just sat there for a few minutes and then kicked out with the message "install disk 2". Guess the disk was bad as I have tried it several times with the same results. Should I assume everything is lost and cannot be restored or is there a possible way to save everything else or just kiss everything goooooodbye?

I tried windows 10 but could not get my raw files to work with it and could not find out how to make it work with windows 10> Canon does not have a file for raw to work with 10. so I am staying with 7 for now.

I have been putting off upgrading to Windows 10 be... (show quote)

I installed Win 10 on my main computer and both my Windows tablets. Been using 10 for a couple of months and have no problem with it at all.

Here is a quote from a blog I found:
“....I totally am frustrated with Edge. It is like dealing with a blank screen with no ability to navigate.
It was written for people who just like to randomly read the web, not people who actually work for a living.
If Windows 8 was written by programmers doing drugs, then windows 10 was written by programmers going into withdrawal…”.

So far I am not a big fan of ‘Edge’. It is still young and clunky. Bookmarks & Favorites Bar need work.
I always liked the Google toolbar. It’s the only one I used. You can’t install it in Edge and you can't change to a search engine to your choice.
There’s no menu bar so if you want, for example, to use the ‘Find on this page’ function, you must remember the keyboard shortcut, Ctrl+F. Some of the other keyboard shortcuts work but not many.

I still use Internet Explorer with the Google toolbar.

I was initially very pleased with my upgrade experience, as it went smoothly and no apparent hiccups. However, since that time my computer has twice failed to startup after "sleep" mode. The first time I finally did something that got it going again. This time it seems totally stuck in the cycle that says something like, 'your computer did not restart correctly and we will automatically restart it'. It's stuck in that cycle. Maybe I'll eventually hit the proper sequence of keys and maybe I won't. I hate to take it in and have someone get it going but without any boot up discs with Win10 on them I guess I'm blowed toad.

Guess I'm really glad I have my faithful iPad. I'd consider this a sign to move from PC to Mac but everytime I check them out the price scares me off.
