Does it have a 25-600mm lens, like the Lumix FZ 150?
BV
No, it hangs around your neck. When ready to view through your LCD, you such reach for it and it snaps (Magnet) unto your LCD and stays there. No need to hold it. You can with your left hand if you like to balance camera. Works like a charm. That is why I chose this one, instead of the HOODMAN. Hoodman has no magnet strip. BV.
The Panasonic FZ 150,($449) is highly recommended by B&H, they claim it is the same as the Leica V-Lux 5, ($949). Both have Leica 25-600 Lens.
You are right. It is a Hoodman Loupe, sells for $79. I bought a www.CarryRight.com. for $39, on Amazon. This one has no adjustable diopter adjustment but has a magnet that glues to the back of you LCD and snaps on, for hands free use. In other words, it hangs around your neck and when you want to take a photo you reach and clip it on the LCD. Works great. I use it on my Sony HX9V, which is a wonderful do all camera, with a 24-360mm lens and HD Video. This is another camera to consider.
Check it out. I have made 16x20" prints and no problem. BV
Use a Hood Man Loop to the back LCD and you have a SLR.
I love mine. This will work on any point & shoot with a 3" screen. BV
Wise decision. I am getting to that point also. I, just retired professionally, as a wedding photographer and am thinking along those lines. Most amateurs don't make large prints and mostly work on their computers and really don't need the big guns.
Send us some photos when you get started. Good luck. BV
Am looking to buy a Wide Angle lens. Which would you recommend? Using the new Canon Rebel T4i.
Sigma 8-16mm, 4.5-5.6 HSM $699.
Sigma 10-20mm 4-5.6mm, EX HSM (77) $479.
Sigma 10-20mm, 3.5- EX HSM (82) $ 649.
Tokina 11-16mm, 2.8 Pro, (77) $659.
Tamron 10-24, 3.5-4.5 (77) $499.
Thanks BV
I wonder what the comparison would look like, if the correct exposure was correct in the first place? Do not think there would be much difference in Raw versus Jpeg. The solution is to get it right, in camera, when you shoot. We have an instant view screen that we can check, just like Pros, used Polaroid cameras in the past to get correct exposure. Makes sense to me. Just my opinion. BV
Two (2) lenses to consider on your new purchase is the 18-135mm or 15-85mm instead of the kit lens. My opinion. BV
If you don't want to lug around a DSLR around, consider the SONY DSC-HX9V.
VOTED BEST POINT & SHOOT OF THE YEAR. This one has 16mp, Panorama Sweep (Auto Stitching), 3-D, HDR, HD VIDEO 1080 STREO, MANUEL, plus many scene functions, Macro. Wow, what more can you ask for. On top of this it has a fantastic lens 24-384mm, CMOS Sensor. I added a HOOD LOUPE, which hangs around my neck and when ready to shoot in Sunny Daylight, I put to my 3"
921 600 Dot Screen and I have a SLR. Fantastic. If you do not do anything professional, I do not see where you need anything else. I have made 11x14 Size prints and were excellent. Have even sold them. Check it out, next time you visit a camera store. Take a SD, Class 10 card, shoot some and take it home and do your own testing. Good Luck BV
Voted Best Camera of the Year, around $300. I have one and love it. If you did not do any professional work. This could be all you need. Get you a HOODMAN for the LCD Screen for viewing and you have a SLR. Forget DSLR.

I like my Tamron 18-270-mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II. This gives you a range of about
28-430mm. Great work around lens range. Also smaller & lighter (62mm) filter size. Then I would add later on, a Sigma 8-16mm (new just came out) and you are through. Shoot photos and have fun.

This works for me. I download my files into a folder, name it by year, month, day, subject. Example: 2012-5-15-Full Moon.
DK, I'm with you. Tamron 18-270mm TypeII (New One). That is my most used lens. BV
