[quote=AnthonyBiss] "Unable to see the slide information,"

I don't understand. What information is on your slides? Mine are in cardboard or plastic mounts but even those I have dismounted show no information that I feel necessary to preserve.

Here in Florida mosquito control has for the past ten years been using a combination of viral and bacterial agents that target insects. During that same period the population of all our wildlife has dropped dramatically. There are still a few specimens of most critters but one must hunt and hunt for a subject. Very sad. I used to take my kids to our parks and there were always amazing bugs, spiders and so forth. My daughter called me the other day asking where have all the wonders gone. She stopped by the park to show friends her favorite things and was very disappointed. When they started spraying grain with the agents infused we suddenly had all our raccoons and opossum families turning up sick, now very seldom seen.

Can you remove the memory card and connect to your computer? If your computer doesn't have a slot - an external reader is maybe $10. A lot less than a Canon repair.

I have and use the Canon 500D on my 300mm f/4L and 400mm f/5.6L with very satisfactory results. Also have satisfying photos with the EF extension tubes on those lenses.

I've used both (100mm macro & 300mm f/4 L with 50mm extension tube) and see no advantage of one over the other. The longer focal length allows greater distance so if there is an advantage that is it.

"With the Canon, I only get reasonably sharp pictures with the 50mm, which I seldom use."

Seems to me that you have summed it up right here. I'd be looking into adding a lens/lenses to my Olympus body/bodies. I use cameras from three systems, SONY, Canon and Panasonic. SONY suits my macro needs best, Canon everything else, Panasonic FZ200 for lightweight travel needs. Experience has shown me that thoroughly mastering ONE camera body gives the best and most consistent result. So where I had been doing everything with each I now have resorted to those categories mentioned with many more "keepers." I personally have to keep it simple these days. GAS attacks will lead me astray!

Unless you're swinging your camera and support system as a weapon, I'd guess that any of the clamps and plates are strong enough to handle a properly balanced camera/lens load. I have plates and clamps from Arca Swiss, Really Right Stuff, Kirk, and various unknown ebay sources (presumably all lowest-cost Chinese products) on my equipment now and have never had a reason to worry about any one of 'em coming apart under load.
