In the late 70's I was the rifle and pistol coach for the USMC 2nd medical battalion rifle and pistol team. I was also a team member on both the rifle and pistol team.

For the pistol team I was allowed to use my personal .45 caliber weapon after the armory certified and reset the trigger pull to competition standards.

The pistol I used was a Llama especial. Needless to say I was a better coach then a pistol shot.

Shooting in this competition let me requalify with the M16 and allowed me to qualify for the first time with the pistol. My team did not advance to the regimental competition as we were beat by just a few points.

I use the Samsung Note III to image receipts. You know in a restaurant, Hardware store etc. My wife uses it to take food images, I agree that any camera is better than no camera and I have used the note for a snap shot when I don't have my Nikon available. No matter how good the picture, the picture is a memorial.

My wife uses her iPhone to take pictures of receipts, candy wrappers or checks that have the name of fund raisers on them. When it comes to tax time it is a quick and clear review of the moneys spent and to what fund raiser without trying to read the receipts after a years time especially since the paper that is being used for receipts fade over time.

It seems that no matter where you are in Washington you can see Mt. Rainier. I go about every two to three months to see my son and his family who live in Auburn.

I keep telling my wife and kids to leave the spiders alone but they tell me they don't want to live at Herman Monsters home and it is not Halloween.

Recently someone posted some photos of some senior enlisted Marines in Service Dress Blues, and a friend of mine referred to them as Department of the Navy employees.

These two jets were mounted on pedestals in from of the Grand Junction Airport. I was without a car with an hour of light so I went for a walk to the airport and thought I might make a photograph as there was dramatic light.

If you read the seal for the Marine Corps it states United States Marine Corps A Department of the Navy. Everyone is under the impression that there is four branches of Service. This is not true, read the Marine Corps Seal, it is a department not a separate branch.
There will be some that will argue this but I ask how can a branch be a full fledged service, also USMC does not require an act of congress to be sent to a conflict/war it can be done on the Presidents authorization alone.

Interesting pictures. There is a set of railway tracks near where I work and I remember seeing some of these fuselages on a train some months back. Same color (probably some protective coating) and all. Cheers.

That is a protective coating of the aluminum. I believe that the only time it is removed is if the aircraft is going to remain as bare aluminum and the only U.S. airline that uses bare aluminum is American Airlines all other airlines paint their aircraft.

it is always good for Marines to hear the music of John Phillip Sousa played by the Marine Corps Band. One of the best Bands in the world.

Just like the TSA everyone interprets the regulations differently. The best policy is to check with local, state and federal before buying and even then you will get some ambiguities with the regulation interpretation.

no wonder our kids are failing at math. They are taking simple math and making it complicated. Where are our educators?

As a general rule I don't get involved in the Gun rights Debate. My feeling is that everyone should be able to own a gun that is mentally compentent and have been through a gun safety course and renews it on an annually basis.

As Dennis said in one of his posts the news is all about gun violence in the schools. He also mentioned briefly about stabbings. The thing about stabbings is that it does not bring the sensation to the news media that shootings do. In the last three or four months there have been at least three incidents of stabbings done by students between the ages of twelve and sixteen years old. None of these incidents received more then a day on the news cast and if you tuned into the news late you probably missed it. Newspapers will probably not even print a paragraph about it.

Every time there is a shooting there is a knee jerk reaction by the politicians but you don't here a word from them when kids stab kids.

What is that just foreword of the heron's leg? Almost looks like a vestal leg, but I didn't think it is, but what is it and is it part of the bird or tree?
A broken tree limb.

That's gotta be a lot of fun. Using it in the country, judging by that shot, should pose no problems. It's when you're getting in the way and "snooping" that people will give you grief.

I watched a bit of photography instruction online, and the presenter mentioned the problems developing with drones (an awful name). He said that planes can't fly below 400', and drones can't operate over 400'. Of course, that's just him, but it is some sort of guideline.

As a recent poster discovered, asking for permission - for anything - will often get you a negative response.

Planes can fly below 400' as long as they can remain clear of obstacles and are not over a populated area. Drones I am not sure about as the rules are just now being developed by the FAA.
