There are way too many flower images posted. While they are beautiful they don't tell much of a story or evoke much inner feeling other than they are attractive. Same goes for birds, but at least many convey some sort of storyline or imagination.

People take photos of flowers because its easy, they don't move.
At least birds move, often unpredictably, which can at least make bird photography a challenge.
But a flower isn't going to suddenly fly off on you, or come swooping in over your shoulder giving you a millisecond to react and get the photo.

I very much enjoy flowers and will continue posting them. Isn't it good that we don't all like vanilla ice cream? Now, tats, I think they're ugly.

Have a good day!

Guilty as charged!!!

The reason? There are many available models of birds and flowers. As a photographer it is my job to present them in an attractive and enjoyable manner. To accomplish this requires practice, practice, practice. I may change my settings minutely or do my post differently for each post, but my goal is to put forth an enjoyable image. Sometimes I succeed and other times I fail. I will keep trying though.

Why do I post? to receive feedback as to my progress or lack there of. Why do you look? Is it not in the hopes of being swept off your cyber feet by the sheer beauty of my images. Sorry they are not there yet but with a little encouragement they may one day be so.

Like anything we must practice with what is available.

Well, you are all correct. Didn't mean to upset the horticultural admirers out there. Apologies...

Oh give me a break. This is ridiculous. If you don't like flower shots, then don't bother with them, but stop using ridicule to describe those of us who do. There are a number of 'non-moving' photo subjects that offer a challenge to shoot. To the original poster...this is the same old tired subject that's caused a lot of contention on a number of occasions.

Despite my comments regarding an overadbundance of flower and bird photos, it was only an overall observation of someone who just joined UHH last week and in no way was meant to upset any individual or group. I don't tweet or Facebook so perhaps my etiquette needs sharpening, so point taken. Regarding that 3rd image of the vine wrapping around the flower, it is truly outstanding, is technically proficient and has a message in it. It is quite exquisite.

I your defence, I agree. Flowers are everywhere. They may be pretty but I look for some character in a photo. A story.
Sure, I envy the clarity & sometimes the colour of a flower that posters present but after a while it's a bit Ho Hum, another flower.
I admit to posting the odd flower myself, but they are quite unique in the world of flowers, or maybe I should say unusual.
Our Kangaroo Paws are quite spectacular in shape & colour. I also presented the flowers on a Queensland Flame tree. Vivid colour but unusual texture & shape. Then I added a pic of how they grew in bunches then panned out to how they looked on the tree.
There was a package from close up to the full Monty.
I went out of my way to take those pics because they looked spectacular & there was a story to them. Every season they excite me.
As for the comments you made, I agree. Great minds think alike!!

As you have only been joined for 4 days I do not think you comment is called for. You have not had the time to look at the great variety of photos that are posted, yes, there are a lot of birds and flowers also landscapes, portraits, enhanced with filters need I go on. I personally love to see birds and things that I do not have a hope in h##l of getting pictures of as they are in country's I can't visit. I can get a picture of a croc in a zoo but not in the wild as the ones posted. Have a good look round the forum and see what is posted before you comment again. :D

I personally did not take offense with this post. He simply asked a question as to why so many birds and flowers were represented. I tried to answer. We all take pictures of what is in abundance in our locations: Some of our children or grandchildren; some of buildings or seascapes; others of street scenes or flowers. Often there is not an event or we are not at a location we desire when we have time to create images or practice, so we choose what is prevalent.

Remember we have around 35,000 members so there will definitely be some duplication.
