It seems that no matter where you are in Washington you can see Mt. Rainier. I go about every two to three months to see my son and his family who live in Auburn.

Chinook Pass! So near Yakima, it's a wonderful spot to visit. Good to see the mountain was out for you :)

From my many years of flying into Seattle with Continental Airlines, I learned to use Mt. Rainier for weather forecasting.
"If you can see Mt. Rainier, it is going to rain. If you can't see it, it is raining!"
