I am still not sure what people are doing with all these 1200 mm (equiv.) lenses on the market.

It is basically a small telescope. Even if you are shooting a relatively slow moving object, like the moon, it is hard to get enough stability to be useful.

If you are trying your hand at sports photography from the cheap seats, for example, the movement of the stadium is usually enough to blur your pictures.

You would be surprised at the VR capabilities on these suckers. I owned a Sony that went out to 1200 mm and I could hand hold with sharp images using it a 1200. Now, professionally, I use my Nikon D850 with the Nikon 500 5.6 lens.
But, like I stated, the images I got from my little Sony 1200mm lens were quite useful, surprisingly.

800mm?

It is the latest version of the Nikon 200-400 f4 VRII. If you put it on a cropped sensor, you would have a field of view of 300-600 f4. But not quite 800mm. Unless of course you put a 1.4 on it. Then on a full frame, you would have a 300 to 600 but on a cropped sensor you would have an angle of view of 450 to 900. Now we are talking 800, even more!!

The average education level of a typical TSA agent is some high school, if your lucky. Good luck with taking anything on board.

I respect your (blanket) statement. I don't share that view but it so happens that all of my straps have been upgraded.

Then you agree with me, how nice. You have learned that camera supplied straps are the worst thing for hanging a very expensive piece of equipment around your neck. You have learned that upgraded straps are the best. You have learned well grasshopper.

I heard the new Sony RX 10 V coming out this fall will have a 1200mm zoom. Is that possible?

Anything is possible. But more importantly, WHAT HAS SONY SAID ABOUT IT.

Hello, I am new on this site. My name is Sharon...
I am taking pictures at an informal wedding reception this week-end and am using my NIKON D70.
an old camera, but I really love it and feel comfortable with it.
I recently bought a Sony mirrorless camera but not confident how to use yet..
anyhow, I am looking for opinions on what lens is best for these pictures.
I have an 18-70;
28-105; 70-300.
I am thinking the 70-300 but ???
thanks in advance for your assistance and support...

The 70-300 is all wrong for a reception. You are in tight places and need a lens that will allow you to shoot groups and individuals, I would think either the 18-70 (my choice) or the 28-105. But what do I know,I have only taken over 500 weddings.

For years I would put in the lower right corner my name, copyright, and year. I believe that doing so has hurt getting new clients because they don't want a name on the image, or have trouble getting them printed elsewhere. What is the norm now for ie. Senior Pictures

I have show prints and have NEVER put my name on the front of the image. It takes away from the image.
Famous artists have all find ways to MINIMIZE their signatures on their prints, you really have to look to find it.
Putting your name on a photo is nothing more than an EGO TRIP for photographers. Let the image speak for itself.

[quote=Los-Angeles-Shooter]I am learning the Panasonic Lumix G85. The manual is tiny spindly sans serif unreadable type, often fractured 'English.' It is incomplete with many things not listed at all and others not explained. The first 8 pages and much throughout are idiotic safety warnings like 'don't let baby eat accessories' or don't pour gasoline on camera. The table of contents is crap and incomplete, many illustrations are too tiny and poorly-printed to be useful. There is NO index. The manual says a more detailed manual is available as a PDF on the website, but the link doesn't work!

Depends on the camera manufacture. I have owned Canon and Nikon for years and find little wrong in there very helpful, very professionally designed manuals.

I bought a RX 100 m1 a few years ago and love it. Now I’m thinking of upgrading to the m3. The 3 provides an articulated rear screen and a built in nd filter, which are nice but not enough for me to spend the additional money. The one upgrade that may make a difference is the lens on the 3 zooms out to 24mm equivalent vs 28 mm on the 1. I shoot mainly landscape. Is the extra field of view worth it? Money is an issue. Any advise on buying good used if I decide to upgrade?

Only YOU should make this decision. It is based on what YOU see through the viewfinder, not what WE will tell you about the difference in a 28 vs. a 24. Many here will get technical and tell you this and that.
BUT IT ALL COMES DOWN TO YOU. I would suggest looking through a 24 mm lens and then a 28 mm lens. Take them out for a shoot and see.
My personal take, I own primes of 20, 28, 50, and 85. Personally I see little difference unless I am in a tight area, which does not happen much.
But so sum this up, IT ALL COMES DOWN TO YOU, NOT US.

Any 35mm full frame users considering the step to medium format? Aside from the lens impact and DoF issue, do you believe the larger sensor, and possibly pixel size (depending on the 50 or 100 mp sensor) will provide better IQ for landscape. Fugi and Hasse seem to be leading here. Do you think the Nikon Z is positioning for a medium format sensor. Is it technically possible. Would the Z9 go there?

I can create a beautiful, sharp, crisp 20X30 image with my 12mp Nikon D3s. Why would anyone need anything more?

I’ve had my D7100 for 2 years now and I really like the photos I take with it but I’m just now starting to take portraits I’ve always shot landscapes and birds and the D7100 does a great job. But was wondering if I was to upgrade to a FX camera would I gain any benefit over the DX?

When shooting portraits with the D7100 I use a older lens the Nikon AF Micro 60mm 1:2.8 and the photos are good. Would the quality be better with a FX camera?

I’m not a professional just learning as I go. This is a example of the Nikon AF Micro 60mm 1:2.8 with the D7100. Will there be a improvement using a FX over the DX when shooting portraits?

And if so which FX would you recommend?

First thing I would suggest is being able to photograph a Portrait without creating very distracting circles in the background.
