According to Nikon, I've never seen a properly installed camera strap. The same goes for binoculars. And for years I installed my straps the same way. How do you install yours?

Below are some frames from Nikon's demonstration video. This is the Nikon-endorced method. The source video can be found here:

I use 'D Rings',clips and wide straps. The newer ones area a cheap shot at advertisement, are not comfortable and are made and look cheap.

Thanks for that. It looks like I have my work cut out for me today.

Actually, I use OP/TECH straps on most cameras, and they have the little quick-disconnect straps. I have never had the end of the strap tucked in like that. Clever.

I agree. I've upgraded the straps on all cameras and 2 pair of binos. I don't care for most OEM straps, though I do have a very sturdy Nikon strap in a cabinet.

My Skout harness has a disconnect like that and I've installed it, along with all neck straps, the "Nikon way." It just makes good sense.

I'm surprised, Jerry, at how many online tutorials promote what Nikon deems as the "wrong way." They make up an overwhelming majority.

Camera company supplied straps are for nerds. Real photographers do not use camera company supplied straps.

I respect your (blanket) statement. I don't share that view but it so happens that all of my straps have been upgraded.

Then you agree with me, how nice. You have learned that camera supplied straps are the worst thing for hanging a very expensive piece of equipment around your neck. You have learned that upgraded straps are the best. You have learned well grasshopper.

I've done all of mine exactly the way shown by Nikon. I followed the diagrams in the owner's manual. The ends of the strap ends up being sandwiched in between two straps.

There was someone on this site who brought up this topic recently. He had installed the strap wrong and the loose ends bothered him. Someone had posted that they wrapped some electrical tape around it to keep the loose ends under control. He just needed to follow the diagram closely.

The strap won't come lose if it's installed the Nikon way

So do I on my DSLR. It's an OLD strap, denim non-slip, nondescript.
Hard to find wide straps with clips anymore.
