Open to suggestions as to composition, quality, editing etc. I have a thick skin so let me have it. I can only improve when I get complete honesty for feedback. Thanks in advance.

In order to have complete control, you need to turn off auto ISO and shoot manual. The camera's brain wants to give you a consistent picture from shot to shot, so when you increase your shutter speed a stop, the camera compensates by moving your ISO a stop to keep the exposure equivalent. Turn off auto ISO and shoot manual and you will get the desired effect as the camera's brain will then say, "Okay, wise guy... you drive." Good luck.

Thanks Jamie. I actually was shooting manual -- or so I thouight. I selected shutter speed, f/stop, and ISO setting -- except I didn't realize there was an overriding force at work for ISO. Appreciate the feedback.

Is the camera set to auto ISO? Sounds like it! Since you reduced the exposure time from 15 seconds to one second and kept the f stop the same, something would have to give and that's the ISO,, which increased by a bit over 4 stops.

Excellent catch Phlash. Even though I had set the ISO to 100, an option in "Shooting Menu" called "ISO Sensitivity Settings" was set to "ISO Sensivity On". That must be overriding my setting.

I've been experimenting with exposure and I have a question. I'm using a Nikon D3100, and for the 2 shots attached I used a Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 lens. I shot them in RAW format but converted to JPG for the upload. Manual settings were f/36, ISO 100. On DSC_0083, I used a 1-second exposure and on DSC_0086 I used a 15-second exposure. However, on the 1-second exposure, the ISO setting was changed to 2000 (not by me). The 15-second exposure had the desired ISO setting of 100. Why does the camera change the setting? Both pictures are virtually the same.

Ran across this early morning scene on our way to Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia. People always ask me why I get up so early. Well one is because I like the early morning time and 2 is if I didn't, I would miss things like this.

Hi Fstop12...amazing photo. Would you be so kind as to share the technical data used to produce this image? Things like the equipment, settings, and what -- if any -- post processing was done.
