no matter which tripod you buy, make sure it is solidly held in place, particularly out in the field doing landscapes. Get some cheap sandbags you can wrap around the legs, or get one of these;

Remember, a good tripod is your sharpest lens.

Yes, please remember when your out for that hike with your gear in a back pack and your tripod strapped to it. Oh, yes, you also need to take your rocks with you. A five gallon bucket should do the trick to carry it to your shooting location.

And the group was so small that NO ONE knew about them until now. FREE publicity.

Do you mean f2/largest opening or highest number/smallest opening of the lens?

Smallest, f16 or f22, which ever is the smallest.

You should read the rodeo regulations about spectators using photography equipment. The rodeo near me limits cameras to 3 inch long lenses.

Interesting, what do they say about a zoom lens that starts out at 3 inches and goes to 6 inches at full zoom? I wonder how they police that.
The reason for most of these regulations is because your sitting very close to the person in front of you and they do not want your lens hitting the head of the person in front. Can't blame them.
When I had my press pass I had no worries. I shot right at the fence with no problem. Wish I still had that.

If you need size 10, Ebay has a pair for only 14K.

Is anyone aware of mft lens equivalent to 28-600 full frame.
With 2x crop factor it would be 14-300 or thereabouts.
Looking for my Panasonic GX8.
Thanks ....

My Sony HX99V, that shoots Raw, also has a 24-720 mm ZEISS T* lens. And it will only set you back $450.00. I get beautiful, sharp 20X30 prints from it. You won't need anything else, TRUST ME.
TRY IT, YOU'LL LIKE IT.

Bought a beautiful Zeiss 50mm Makro Planr F2.0 ZF2 manual focus to complete my lens selections & found it to be as sharp and color true as billed. Only problem was auto exposure in A priority with f stop controlled by the camera did not work as it is supposed to, controlled by the camera. I was advised by seller to return/exchange, which I did. Same problem. 2nd time, tried lens on backup D500 where it did what it should have. Zeiss is unaware of problem, so is Nikon, who more or less say just buy Nikon (of course). BTW, I upgraded to the latest firmware; still same. For the $$, not right not to have full functionality. Ideas?

Zeiss has manual aperture settings on their lenses. You need to set the F stop at the smallest F stop on the lens. It will then work. Common mistake.

Hello,Hoggers! I am looking for advice on buying tripods. I like macro and landscape photography.I have a table-top tripod for indoor macro, and not any decent regular size tripod. My price limit is $300.00.Less is better,of coursešŸ˜.Also,I am not a fan of plastic parts.Any advice would be appreciated.TIA

If you want a good one, the tripod itself will run you $300.00 without a head. I would consider the Benro line of tripods. Forget carbon fiber, at your price point you will get a sturdy one in Aluminum.

Does anyone have knowledge of how to access a vantage point for photographing the Charleston, WV, Capitol Building from across the river? My photo friend and I will only be in that area for one night, so have very limited time to scout out locations. Just getting through traffic and finding unfamiliar roads can really eat up a lot of time. We'd be coming from Summersville and staying in Cross Lanes. Any help would be very much appreciated!

Multiple shots at dusk. They light that sucker up and that gold dome shines. They were working on it last fall, I am sure they are done with it by now.

Hello! I am an older avid amateur. I have Canon 5dM4 camera. My lens are all Canon - nifty 50, 16-35 f/4 L, 24-105 f/4 L, 100 f/2.8 L, 180 f/3.5 L, and 70-200 f/4 L. I shoot flowers, macro, landscape and travel. Here's my dilemma.

I am getting closer to realizing my dream of going to Iceland first quarter 2020 to shoot auroras/Northern Lights. Been doing considerable research and learned that a lens f 2.8 or faster is recommended as well as a wide-angle... 16mm to 24mm. So, I originally was going to trade the 16-35 f/4 for Canon's 16-35 2.8 III. Received it yesterday and returned it today.

I found that Canon also makes a 24 f/1.4 II L lens. I was thinking given I have the 24-104 and possibly the 24 prime, do I really need the 16-35 f/4 lens? What types of photos are taken in the 16mm-20mm range? When do you find that narrow band (16mm-20mm) useful?

If the majority of your responses indicate that the 16-20mm range is used more for art-type photos, then I know I can sell it and not regret it later! I am not an art-type person...wish I were but I am not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated wisdom!

If you don't use it LOSE IT.
I own the Nikon 16-35 F4, I pair that with my 24-120 F4, I use these two lenses for landscape shots because I like the range of the 24-120, the wide of the 16-35 and both lenses take the same filter size.
Sometimes you have to get really close to get what you want included and need that 16mm, it comes in real handy. But that's just me.

Iā€™m doing night shots with my newly acquired Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4G Lens on my D750. Trying to get the lights to Star I wanted to go high on my f-stop readings but my camera will not let me go tighter than f-16. I can get smaller apetures with other lenses. Is it me, my lens or camera blocking smaller apetures with this lens?
I couldnā€™t delete my question but found my answer. f-16 is the minimum aperture for this lens. I need to read the fine print. Maybe this will help someone else.

Set to Auto ISO, Aperture priority at f16.

Dear fellow uhhs,
I am planning to do some photo shooting in Mexico during the coming Day of the Dead. I would like some input on what the optimal equipment would be for the purpose according to your experience, for my (apsc) Canon EOS 60D. I have an EF S 18-55 f2.8 and an ef 70-200 f2.8. Do I use or avoid flash, do you have the perfect way to carry everything? Should I try to "travel light"? I would also appreciate hints regarding behaviour: How would you behave when shooting: ask everyone for permission, shoot first then ask, or the other way around, do you have a standard "shtick", a business card, other ideas?

Cheers to the forum,
P.

Seriously? It sounds like a 10 year old's questions. If it were me I would take the wide, leave on the camera and only change if necessary. Sounds like you are a timid individual, so I changed my mind, put the 70-200 on your camera so you can have a little separations from folks.
Go and take ques from others, see how they are taking there shots, learn to shoot on the move and go with the flow. If no one else is taking pictures, then put yours away. If folks are shooting with phones, pull yours out, put your camera away, and snap with your phone.
Again, you sound very unsure, I would take a low profile approach to this shoot until you find out the lay of the land.
When I shot for the newspapers, I was very aggressive, only shot with a 24 and 200 prime on my Nikon F.
The Bonus here is you never have to ask the dead for permission to shoot.

I am going to rodeo tomorrow night and am not sure what lens would be best. It will be at 7:00 pm.
Have a voice of 24-70 f4 or 70-00 f4. I am not sure how far away I will be from the action.
Thanks,
Jeannie

Take both, once you determine your distance, if you have the wrong lens on, go to the ladies room and change.
