Sigma is announcing soon their new entry level full frame mirrorless camera body. It will be the lightest and cheapest full frame mirrorless available, which begs to forebode a higher end model to follow. Not many specs or price yet but its coming this winter.
It will accept all L mount lenses for full compatibility with Leica and Panasonic L mount, full frame mirrorless lenses, as well as Sigma own upcoming L mount collection. (Including their new 35mm F1.2 ART L Lens)

Interesting, you mentioned the Sigma 35mm F1.2 ART L Lens). That lens is long and weighs 2 3/8 lbs. by itself. Sort of defeats the idea of a light weight camera that can fit in your pocket.
It will be interesting if they offer a pancake lens that will make the camera shirt pocketable.

And some folks here continue to say digital camera sales are declining. What a laugh. There seems to be a new digital camera every time you turn around. If digital was dead why do new and improved camera's continue to come out.

Sorry, and thanks for your response, but I was being snarky to the original OP in that she is doing the entire east coast and asked what to take pictures of, really too broad a request, it would take years to complete such a trip.

The perspective is not correct with a wide angle lens. Objects behind the main subject appear to be further in the distance.

You cannot unfortunately change a human eyeball, it sees what it sees, and what it sees in approximately 35mm. Sorry, cannot change biology.

A major downside for me with the rx100 is that you cannot do off camera flash easily.

That's why I bought the Sony RX100 II, has a flash shoe in the top and you can get a off camera flash cord to connect to your Sony flash for off camera flash. But generally I just point the flash head up and behind me.

If it has a screw in on the eyepiece, you can order different power diopter's. Used to do this with older Nikon film camera's.

That's not correct.

Studies have measured the cone of visual attention and found it to be about 55 degrees wide. On a 35mm full frame camera, a 43mm lens provides an angle of view of 55 degrees, so that focal length provides exactly the same angle of view that we humans have. Damn if that isn’t halfway between 35mm and 50mm. So the original argument is ended, the actual ‘normal’ lens on a 35mm SLR is neither 35mm nor 50mm, it’s halfway in between.

No, you are not correct.
It is really easy, take a 35 mm lens, mount it on your camera, mount the camera on a tripod, aim it at anything, then with both your eyes open, look at the same scene, then you will see for yourself.

A focal length between 43mm and 45mm on a full frame camera gives a perpsective close to what the human eye sees. That why Tamron came out with the 45mm f/1.8 SP VC lens. Samyang just recently came out with a 45mm f/1.8 lens for Sony mirrorless. I use the Tamron 45mm on my Nikon D750.

I know that UHH members are right about the 85mm to 105mm focal lengths but for full length portraits, I like to use the 45mm because backgrounds look as they should. Backgrounds look unnaturally large using telephoto lenses.

Actually, what the human eye sees is more to the 35 mm side. That is way many lenses were first 35 mm, then came the 50.

It's a slightly different color, has a special logo, and also a special body cap. Those "features" will be worth the extra cost to many people.

Your quote, "It's a collector's item, and it will quadruple in value in as few years". Is not only misleading it is also very FALSE. Before you posted you should investigate what other Nikon anniversary editions are selling for from the past. Answer, NOT MUCH more than regular editions. In fact, in many cases, they are selling for a lot less than they originally sold for. So much for your fake news.

Limited, I should have recognized the Egyptian Geese. Did you know that a group of geese is called a gaggle BUT only when they are on the ground; when in flight, they are a flock.

Did you know that a flock of crows is called a murder?

I saw Adorama has a Nikon d500 100 year anniversary edition camera for $1300 more than a standard d500. What's so special about it and is the higher price worth it?

The 100 year anniversary edition of the D500 will have the anniversary message printed on the camera. And that is the only difference between that and the regular D500. (OH, it also comes in a SPECIAL box)
Is it worth the price? IMHO, NO. Unless your a collector. And if you live another 100 years, if might be worth what you paid for it. If you cannot live that long, then you'll never get your money back on it, especially if you use it. Once used, the price will drop, FAST.

What is a decent portrait lens, is a 50mm good? Thanks Jim Bianco

Generally speaking, portrait lens focal length starts about 75 mm and goes up to 200 mm. If the 50 is going on a DX camera then it will have an effective focal length of 75 mm. If it is going on a FX camera, then it might be a little wide.

Can anybody help?
On the Canon 1DXII and the 5Dmkiv, it’s possible to set up back button focussing on both the ‘AF ON’ button and the ‘*’ button and also assign different AF point selection to them. This means it’s possible to go from spot focussing to multi point focussing just by sliding from one button to the other while say following a bird on a stick and into flight. It is also possible to assign different AF case settings. Does anyone know whether this or similar can be done using the original Canon 1DX.

IF your camera manual does not give you this information, call Canon.
