Yes they can. It is often a result of a deteriorating power supply or a weakening of capacitors. If you have its power plugged into a power strip/surge protector, that can also be a culprit for shaky power issues. I have actually had systems that were experiencing lockups and replacing the power strip/surge protector fixed the problem. You should really have both you system and monitor plugged directly into a good quality battery backup unit. While power surges can damage equipment, they are actually a very minor part of the electrical issues. The biggest issue is "brown outs" where there is a drop in line voltage, but not enough for your system to stop working or shut down. Your power supplies in your equipment will try to compensate, but that is limited and over time the stress weakens the components.

While all the suggestions for monitors are helpful. If you don't have an excellent graphics adapter in your system, you're never going to get the benefit of the monitor. Sort of like a $5,000 body with a $59.00 lens on it and expecting tremendous shots. This is one disadvantage to laptops. Their graphics are part of the main system board and typically can't be changed or upgraded. Where as, a desktop system is typically capable of installing an "above board" graphics adapter.

You might want to look into renting the Sigma 150-600 contemporary with 1.4 Tele. Fantastic lens! On your 7200 it will be effective 225-900 and even further with the tele. It has a tripod collar.

I'm going to be photographing wildlife in Africa next year and am thinking of purchasing a Tamron 100-400mm lens to use on a Nikon D7200. I've read and watched a number of reviews and it appears to be a good lens for my purpose. Am I correct in that assessment? I have a limited amount of money to spend on the new lens.

Have you thought about maybe another camera like the Nikon CoolPix P900? https://www.nikonusa.com/en/nikon-products/product/compact-digital-cameras/coolpix-p900.html It's about the same cost as the Tamron lens, gets terrific reviews and has an unbelievable zoom. It would give you even more reach than the D7200 with the 100-400 and also be your backup if you have a problem with the D7200.

I have a ProMaster MPV432+ convertible monopod that has three little legs on it for stability and they are removable if not needed. It is no carbon fiber, but it is light and stable, and it handles my FF and 70-200 f2.8. https://www.promaster.com/

Very nice! I had not seen one like this before. Thanks for the link!

ZoMei makes several tripods that are also mono pods in that you can remove one of the legs and attach the head to it. Reasonably priced and fairly sturdy.

I prefer the B+W HTC's which are their very thin version. They are usually ranked high in reviews, and the HTC helps reduce vignetting. My understanding is that Hoya makes the Nikon filters.

Locks the focus position on the screen. Not recommended.

Why? I keep mine locked with single point in center like it was on film cameras.

I agree. Each state charges sales tax to be used exclusively for that state's purposes for sales taxes. It's simple for me. If I purchase an item over the internet from a state which has no state sales tax base then I would not expect to be charged sales tax on that item. The fact the item is being sent to a state that taxes such items has absolutely no bearing on that transaction. Conversely, if I purchased an item over the internet from a state that charges sales tax then I would expect that states sales tax to be figured into the transaction. This is only right.

Concerning used items: If a person operates a for-profit business selling used goods then why would you believe that person should be exempt from charging sales tax?

The laws are written such that the sales tax that is applicable is determined by the location where the product or service is delivered. Believe me it is a pain in the you know what for a business to have to figure all of that out.

A couple of years ago, I purchased a Sigma 10-20 mm f3.5 wide angle lens. Two weeks ago, I was surprised by the lens not auto-focusing any more. Nothing I tried worked, including cleaning contacts, cycling the switches, etc.. It did focus manually, however. So, I sent it to Sigma for repair.

A couple of days ago, I received it back with a note that said: "Upgraded n/c". (Seriously, that is literally all that it said.) I have no clue what they did, but at least I didn't have to pay anything as it was still under warranty.

Now, I am struggling with getting it to produce sharp images. They all look "soft" to me. I tried to tune the lens in the camera (Nikon D7100), but that has been a disappointment. Maybe I need to work harder at it. The problem was the depth of field with my calibration setup showed soft focus across more depth than I thought I would get. So finding the sweet spot was elusive, if not impossible. Nothing appeared "sharp". My setup was for the lens at 15 mm, distance to target at 30" (50x focal length) and wide open at f3.5. I tried both auto-focus and manual-focus. They both look "soft". ISO was 100, but I tried higher. Shutter speed was 1/100th or higher. No joy.

This morning, I took some test shots of the back of the house, which was bathed in direct sunlight. I various focal lengths, ISO, shutter speed, etc.. None of those produced what I would consider a sharp image.

So, before I resign myself to accepting the soft lens, I thought I'd ask if any UHH folks have any experience with this lens. I can imagine that it would not be as sharp as a prime lens, but what is acceptable with a short zoom? Did I miss something with my test setup? Or, am I going off the deep end??

Thanks for your comments.

You might want to check your firmware on your 7100 as well as the lens correction firmware. It could be that the new upgrades Sigma did require you to upgrade the firmware on the 7100. This is all downloadable at Nikon's web site along with detailed instructions. Very simple to perform.

Can anyone give info. on this. Thanks

Not to be rude, but manuals are a wonderful thing. Should read them before using equipment and asking basic questions. Don't have one? Go to your manufacturer's web site and download one for your equipment.

Not so easy. There are literally thousands of taxes involved. State, county, local, municipalities etc. I had a small business that I just sold. I had customers in multiple counties with different county rates. Even with the software to calculate the taxes, it took the better part of an hour to file all of the forms required each month. This ruling will shut down many small operations, and stop others from starting up as they cannot afford the expense and time involved. The only solution will be for Congress to pass an Internet sales tax that applies to all states.

Check the CF manufacturer's web site. They often have software to do a recovery. Try Googling CF file recovery as well.

Lots of good answers. Much also depends on how much cropping you think you will need to do. All shots have noise in them just like all film has grain. When you crop you are basically enlarging the photo, so the more noise (grain) in the shot the more noise you will see in the cropped photo. It's all a balancing act and there isn't any clear cut answer. Shoot, shoot, shoot and figure out what you like and what works best for you.
