Back Button Focus

Recently purchased a Nikon D7200. Manual does not cover Back button Focus. Can someone explain how enable and disenable this feature.

I’m left eye dominant so I use the front button on my D7200 activated with my middle finger for focus.

It is all done from your Camera Menu, not sure about the menu on the D7200, I have the d3300, your menu may be different, it was only a few clicks of menu items and I had Back Button Focus on my D3300.

I watched the video and the explanation was straight forward. I am always
looking for good instructional videos so I watched another of his videos.
"Top 5 settings to change on the Nikon D7200" (I own a D7200). He talks about setting the auto focus and has his
AF-A , AF-S , and AF-C settings all mixed up, in fact he doesn't mention AF-C. His explanation for setting
AF-S really is describing AF-C.
Bottom Line; I will not be watching any more of his videos because I won't know when I'm getting incorrect
information about something I don't know ( I knew about AF settings). Yes I do have several of Steve Perry's
videos.

Steve Perry guide the best. One thing to know is that you will need to get the idea set in your mind and this could take getting a few shots first. What happens to some people is that they forget they are on BBF and then all their photos are blurry and they get upset and say not to use this function. Go out and shoot around your home just to get the mind-finger connection set in your brain. The nice thing about BBF is that once it is set for a certain distance you don't need to touch it again or you can follow a moving object and hit the button quickly as needed. Just do a little practice before you actually need to use it "for real." I use BBF the majority of the time. Good luck.

I have a D7000, and the way to set it up IS in the manual. They just do not use the common term "back button focus"! Look in the section for re-assigning buttons, specifically the AE-L/AF-L button. Set it to AF-On in your camera's menu. This enables focus ONLY with that button, and the shutter release button can no longer be used to initiate focus. Once you press the button and release it, focus is locked and you can re-compose and use the shutter button to shoot the picture without changing focus [until you again press the AE-L/AF-L button]. To return to using the shutter release button, go to the menu and re-set the AE-L/AF-L button to AF-Off.
For photographing moving subjects, use AF-C and burst mode while holding down the AE-L/AF-L button. The lens will continuously adjust its focus as the subject changes its distance from you as long as the button is held down.

Does Steve Perry have a presentation for Canon as well? I shoot a 60D (I know, kinda getting old) but enough horsepower for me. I am using BBF most of the time but not sure if I am always doing it correctly. Anybody else have a good presentation if Steve only does Nikon.
