Hi
I am wondering if there is a best SD card for shooting in RAW, or, just in general which SD card
do you use?
My D5300 takes a picture then the screen is black for 2 seconds and then another click. I'm wondering if my
SD card isn't fast enough or is there something wrong with my camera?
Thanks,
Tricia

Doesn't sound like an SD card problem. Sounds like a camera settings problem.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of converting a camera's native raw files to DNG during import?

Also....Can I convert my entire library to DNG and will the edit histories be preserved?

DNG files are not RAW files. Many, but not all, photo post-processors can handle Adobe DNG files. All post-processors work with RAW files.

Example: Capture One Pro doesn't handle Adobe RAW. If you ever change your post-processor to COP, you will not be able to process your Adobe DNG files.

I prefer to keep all of my options open.

Other than much larger sensor, twice the megapixels, greater dynamic range, more frames per second, weather sealed, higher ISO, high speed video, higher video resolution, top lcd screen, bigger and much better viewfinder, built-in WiFi, faster shutter speeds, wider aperture, more focus points, longer battery life, headphone and microphone inputs, etc., probably not much difference. Oh, and the $1000 price difference.

Yeah $1,000 without lenses, and you need to print pictures you took handheld in the dark at 20" or larger.

So Does any one out there have any wisdom on real estate photography?

Wide angle lens + lots of remote triggered flash units for interiors.

This is an adjunct to a previous post...I am considering renting a camera this summer (it would be my first experience with the process or the equipment to be rented). The rental would be during part of a week-long aviation convention. A 4-day rental - picking up on location - would save me about $100 over a 10-day although costing more/day, but is 4 days long enough to get a good feel for a full frame camera (Sony a99ii)? I'm used to using a crop-frame a77, but eventually want to upgrade.

Since you are staying within the Sony A-mount family, you shouldn't have a problem. But you might want to download the A99ii manual from the Sony support web site and study it in advance and make notes of the differences between it and your a77.

Hi first time asking a question is there any advantages to letting lightroom convert my RAW files (NEF Nikon) to DNG ?

One disadvantage is that if you ever switch to a different post processor (such as Capture One), it may not be able to process your DNG files. Lightroom is rapidly falling behind its competition.

I am a novice in every since of the world except for the number of images I have on my computer. I have an iMac with 1TB of storage and an external hard drive with the same where I back up my computer that contains over 12,000 raw images each night using Time Machine. I use Photoshop Elements for editing and more and more I am plagued by a very slow system (opening and saving in Elements or in any other software application). I recently added RAM and went from 4 to 12GB but I still have most of my memory used up although I do have 750 GB on the hard drive that is free.
My Mac is 7 years old but the hard drive is only 3 years old. Should I buy more RAM so I can get 16GB, should I buy a new computer with a larger hard drive?
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Your iMac probably has a hard drive. How full is it. A nearly full hard drive will be very slow. Have you ever de-fragmented your iMac drive? Two ways to speed up your iMac are by adding RAM and/or replacing the hard drive with a solid state drive. If you using a USB connection to your backup drive, the USB interface will be slow. Thunderbolt interfaces are an order of magnitude faster. But that shouldn't be a bottleneck because Time Machine doesn't copy all of your files every time it backs up your system--it only backs up new files or changed files.

Thanks - I should add right now that I am not looking to spend more than around $150-200

Whatever you buy in that price range will be extremely disappointing.

I was bitten by the photography bug about six months ago. I shoot with a Nikon D3200. I have no desire to become a professional but want to make photography a serious hobby. I own two lenses: Nikon 18-70 and Nikon 70/300 but I understand a prime lens should also be part of my kit. My question is which prime would be a good all around lens ie landscape, head shots to full length portriats along with group portriats? Thanks in advance for help on this matter.

Don't buy a prime lens yet. Use the lenses you have for at least six months. Then use Lightroom or some other image processor to find out what your most used focal length is. Then, IF you are unsatisfied with your image quality, buy a prime lens at or nearest to the most used focal length.

When using a monopod vs tripod, i always switch my vr off on tri pod should you do the same with a monopod??? thanks for some help

It depends on the lens. Check your lens manual. If it doesn't address this, contact customer support.

You need to send it to zeiss for an update. I had the same problem. I got the updated lens back in a week. Check the Zeiss support section on their website.

Sony RX100M3. Fits in your purse or pocket. Great sensor. Wide aperture. Zoom. No lenses to juggle.

To produce the best quality image, use an app that allows you to save a RAW image that you can process on your computer.
