I have been searching the web for an explanation for this condition but have not found any references to it. While attempting to quick snap street scenes at an outdoor farmer's market on a bright clear day at around 3:00 pm in 105ยบ weather the camera was capturing only 1/2 the scene or less. It would paint from the top down, show a thin scrambled line then black for the rest of the frame. I had it set on Auto and was using the Zeiss Touit 32mm lens without a filter. The portion of the image that was visible looked quite normal. It occurred mostly facing the West with the hood in place but also happened with the hood removed. Do you suppose the camera was preventing sensor damage when facing the indirect glare of the sun? I've shot closer to the sun before and have never seen this happen. It also happened with some shots facing East as well but these were more reliable. I have not since then detected any lasting effects. Maybe you could recommend settings that would have contributed or might prevent this from happening again if indeed you think that is what caused the problem. Will appreciate any thoughts or speculation on the matter. Thanks.
Off the top of my head I would say the ambient temp coupled with the fact that is a mirrorless that sucks up power and heats up that sensor to excess must have played a major role in your mishap.
The problem is with the lens. It's a recognized issue and can only be cured by returning the lens for a free firmware upgrade. Been there, done that with excellent results. It's a superb hunk of glass once you get it upgraded to eliminate that problem.
There was also a firmware to the a6300 to correct overheating when in the video mode.
You need to send it to zeiss for an update. I had the same problem. I got the updated lens back in a week. Check the Zeiss support section on their website.
I just wanted to offer a much delayed "Thank You" to all who responded to my query. I did send it off to Zeiss for the update and got it back in no time at all. Zeiss did not charge for this service and I have experienced no more problems. It is a great versatile lens for the a6300. I think I'll take it out later today. Thanks again, everyone!
