Wife is away at a Quilt Retreat, goes every year. I drag out all of the photo gear and cover the dining room table. Usually I play with stuff and run a few old lenses on new (and old ) cameras. We had a pretty bad Fire Season this year, three big fires close. I remembered that I couldn't recall my last inventory update. On top of that, another wonderful rainy day to keep me in! You might think this is an easy project, but I've been with Nikon since '67 or '68 haven't gotten rid of much, and bought a bunch. Film first then digital. Complete description, serial number, and lens accessories. Filters and Hoods add up fast, so I make note of them as well. Other accessories, an endless list, more filters, batteries, chargers, cases, remote releases, etc., etc. Will wait for another day. One tip, almost drove me crazy, just before the D series, and continuing with it, a minute, etched, black on black number just above the mount. My eyes are good, but I had to grab a pair of my wife's readers! The inventory goes to the bank box and secure online storage. If I have good light tomorrow, I'll photograph everything.

Good for you!

I have all my old film cameras and still use them. True, my Nikon D500s and D7000 are my money cameras but i love to take a couple of them - perhaps my Canon T90 and maybe my AV1 along with a collection of my favorite lens and just take a ride on the back roads of NH. It's very pleasant experience for me - gets me away from the cares of this life. I'm long overdue for my next trip - COVID got in the way last year - the year from hell.

No, I don't develop my films. That what The Darkroom is for. When I get through with my T90s, I take the AA batteries out just in case.

I take this as an attempt at humor.

The software in the Tesla is designed such that human intervention is as easy as grabbing the steering wheel. It is intended for the benefit for long distance driving. After 500 - miles or so, my hands get cramped. This feature would be very beneficial for me on long distance driving.

Crashes of Telsa vehicles using their "Auto-Pilot' software have been in the news again lately and I am wondering how others feel about sharing our roads and highways with software driven vehicles. While I realize that the manufacturer says that the software is meant to reduce accidents and the percentage of crashes is still rather low, they are obviously not without errors. All in all, I find this "Auto-Pilot" trend to be a rather disturbing and I'm not sure I'm comfortable with the use of auto-pilot on our roads and highways at all. Sure human drivers make mistakes as well, but these computer driven vehicles can only do what they are programmed to do and I think it is impossible to write software that covers every possible scenario they may encounter. Anyway, is this really the wave of the future or is it possibly a misguided trend? Is the development of this kind of "Artificial Intelligence" really important enough to test it's use on our public roads and highways?

In any case, what are the laws that govern the use of this type of software and shouldn't we take a hard look at how we intend to proceed or not to proceed with this type of development before it goes much further? At least in my State, the operator of any motor vehicle must have a valid Operator's license, which requires at least some testing, etc. Do these computers have a license to operate in this manner or is just having a licensed operator on board enough to qualify, even if the licensed operator is paying no attention whatsoever? Frankly, there are enough technology distractions for drivers already and having auto-pilot available and by it's very nature and intent only encourages drivers to pay even less attention to the operation of their vehicle. I for one don't see how this is a good thing for all involved and I look forward to your responses on the subject. Good luck and good shooting to all.

The law says regarding this new technology that you MUST have your attention on the road (no distracted driving such as texting while riding these vehicles). You must have your hands ready to take control of the vehicle. It is clear to me that in the instance of rear ending pull-overs that the person behind the wheel was not minding his vehicle. There might be some minor problem with the software but there is no excuse for the person behind the wheel for distracted driving.

Between a hot (perhaps) and many miles of slogging from one tourist trap to another flesh to flesh, I'm not surprised. Is it any wonder that COVID had a huge impact in Italy?

It is a beautiful country with a wonderful gastronomical panorama. What's not to like? After COVID, that is

If I was younger and there was no COVID, I would head for less populated areas where food is king and enjoy the countryside.

I have a Tundra Hard case cut to size that I keep on the passenger seat. I place the camera in the case, if there is traffic, rare where I live, I snap one of the two latches. You do need to reverse the Lens hood, but that takes a moment. There is room for the extender or a small lens as well.

Edit: Something interesting could be done with a rear facing infant car seat gotten from a thrift shop.

Just watch that foam. Some of it turns gooey after several years and perhaps some heat inside your car. I had a close call with that happening with me

I remember watching a YouTube video of a guy who suggested that most of the time a camera lens can be cleaned with a Q-Tip and a little distilled water. Obviously, this won't work if the glass has grease or a lot of crud on it. Most of the time the Rocket blower works fine for me, but I generally keep a UV filter on my lenses.

That’s right. This is not secret information. What you are doing is letting them deposit money, not take it out. All sorts of organizations use direct deposit, from the IRS and Social Security to eBay and PayPal.

My bank allows me to create a whole account on the fly. If you are talking a lot of $$ you don't want to lose. Perhaps your bank can help you set up an account for this outfit to do the transfer. After you get your $$ transfer it to your regular account and then close out the account you set up for this transfer.

If they can use PayPal and you have an account - that would be the ultimate, safe way to get your $$

Being of generous mind, perhaps the OP has a language problem and is a newbie. While I don't apologize for my remarks, to the OP: we need more information - we cannot read your mind.

More information is needed including the image in question and don't strip the EXIF information.

ALWAYS post an image if the OP expects helpful comments. Guessing about this: are you using a cropped lens with a full frame body?

This is dart board time. That's what I got this time when I threw the dart. Without an image + EXIF metadata all bets are off

Alan - think like a businessman. If someone orders 5 cards and decides they're the wrong format, or whatever reason, returns the cards. The cards are 'new', but you can't sell them new anymore, such as the packages open or for whatever reason. What price would you try to resell them for? How much effort will you put into preparing them for sale, given time is money? Would you even reformat a card you'll sell for 50% the original price? Why would you be fixing a broken card that sells new for $16 for 32GB. That task needs equipment, time, expertise. What volume of broken SD cards could you fix to sell before you could ever even breakeven? Refurbished is a rather fancy word for used.

Just trying to put my mind around this whole thread. When I need a new card, I head for my friend's store, he is a professional photographer on the side, and say to him "Lennie, I need a new card ("#" size) and produce my $$ card and the deal is done.

When I go on a shoot, I return home and the first thing I do is off load the images to my computer and that card is ready for the next shoot. The computer is cloned on a weekly basis so I think I have things covered. The only other thing I could do to protect my images is to take the oldest clone (I have 3 generations of clones) down to my safety box at the bank and set up a system of rotation - but that's another subject for discussion on another thread.

Just trying to understand why anyone would trust their images on a card that has been "refurbished" whatever that means

Not sure I agree with most comments on "reformatting" vs "refurbishing." Ask the seller just what he does to the card - just what does refurbishing entail?

There may be cases where (for example) the lock tab has been broken off on a SD card. Does he take these cards apart and replace the whole exterior with the lock tab?

This is mostly opinions so far on this thread. How about science for a refreshing change. This might be useful if a particular card has been physically damaged to the point that it cannot be accessed anymore.

This thread has peaked my interest - maybe on a rainy afternoon, I'll do some researching

Alan
