An osprey made the mistake of invading a red-winged blackbird's air space and the RWB made a vigorous defense. In scene 1 the red-winged blackbird makes a dive from high on the osprey. Scene 2 he looks like a missile as he tries to catch up with the bigger bird. In scene 3 the red-winged blackbird shouts his farewell as the osprey banks right to depart the area. Not the sharpest of pictures. I was shooting with a rental Panasonic G9 and the 100-400mm lens. Not too bad for the first day out with this combo.
I've been using PSE to digitally enhance some of my photos for a few years now. Here are a few samples: Cable Cars in SF, Maine coast, Blue Angels, CO Rocky Mountains, Red Headed Woodpecker, and view from the ship in port.
I've always been partial to corvettes. The '67, a 327/350, is undergoing a frame off mechanical restore. The '68 was Rally Red on Red, a fairly unique color combo. The '73 was a 454/275 and it would pass anything on the road except a gas station. All fun cars.
Very pretty bird, very good catch. I think it's a Reddish Egret
They are related. The very rare Reddish Egret has a pinkish beak with a dark end where the LBH has a blue beak with a dark end. At least, that's the best that I can tell. Thanks for the reply.
Ran across two Red Shouldered Hawks squawking at each other today. Managed to catch this one as he took a break high up in a tree. Was using a Nikon Z 50 (on trial through LensRental) with a Nikon 300mm f/4. Seems to be a nice combination.
You mention a 300mm lens. I have the 300mm f/4 and use it in good light with a Nikon Teleconverter TC-17EII. That's a 510mm reach and I get great results about 85% of the time. Not sure which 300mm you have but try renting a teleconverter and see what you think. Or check out the Tamron 100-400mm. It has good reviews and costs less than half the Nikon 80-400.
