Just got notified of a price increase. I only have it on 1 computer for my images. . 3 years ago the yearly cost was $59.99. 1 year ago (2019) the price rose to $71.99. Now I am told that when my subscription expires next month the price will be $ 83.99. I inquired of them and they say they now offer anti-virus protection, but that is an additional cost. I have ant-virus protection and don't need another program. Carbonite is a good product and is easy to use. But right now due to advancing age, travel restrictions, Covid, etc., I am not taking a lot of pictures so carbonite is just not being used much. As an aside, I am told that my social security will not increase at all next year. Right now I see my bill at the grocery store gets higher every time I go food shopping.
I like carbonite and do not want to cancel. I feel secure with it, but the price hike just seems unwarranted at this time.
I will probably renew this time, but will seriously reconsider if there is another increase next time.
Just ranting----other than that we are pretty much ok.

You can buy a 4gb hard drive for that price. Is that an option?

What doesn't go up?

Is the increase so the workers can get a raise or more benefits?
Or to cover increased operating expenses and not loose money?
Not like their costs are not increasing... Electric, water, maintenance, equipment, ...

The increase is $1.00 per month to $7.00 per month.

I am sorry I posted this in the first place. Yes, an external hard drive will be an option. Yes it is only a $1.00 per month increase but the cost of food, insurance, taxes, health care, home utilities go up too----but my income does not. As I said----I was just ranting.
I would not mind it if the post could be deleted.

I get ya! I also really hate going to the grocery store; I cringe at my heating & A/C bills (Seems like fewer weeks off season between the two also.).
Sometimes blowing off steam helps. (But unfortunately it won't help pay the bills.)
Hang in there. You are definitely not alone in this.

Understand your feelings well, but don’t trade your cloud storage for a cheap HD!

Might look at BackBlaze and/or IDrive. Both are unlimited storage, always work with no human intervention and easy to Restore data.

You probably have Amazon Prime, why not use their free Cloud photo storage.
I use that and also have three local backups stored in separate fire rated file boxes.

Curious about why you believe you should get more social security when you pay nothing into it?

2 duplicate 4TB hard drives. If one messes up (not likely), just copy to another. 2 won't fail at the same time.

Check out iDrive. I have 5 terabytes of space for about $60 a year and can backup as many devices as I need. Plus they have a bunch of other free options.
