Isn't it incumbent on Adobe to upgrade LR to work on 64 bit? I hate Apple's forced upgrades also, remembering when they discontinued Aperture after I had entered all my photos and folders in it, only to see them wiped out.

On the other hand, tech progress is inevitable and we won't be able to hold on to old technology forever. I realize that Adobe and Apple are enemies, but Adobe needs to upgrade. I use LR Classic. I don't want my stuff in the cloud.

I remember when MS stopped supporting 16 bit applications and many manufacturers said they wouldn't update their hardware drivers for old printers, modems, etc so not only did we have to buy newer software we had to get new printers (some of them anyway). Way before that the 8 bit applications got orphaned... All the OS companies have had to go through this.

Having had absolutely problem with previous Mac OS versions I installed Catalina and as I noted in an earlier post, my very old version of PS Elements no longer works as it's a 32 bit application. This is my only program that doesn't work with Catalina.

While I still prefer the (otherwise) flawless operation of a Mac over a PC, I have to say that perhaps Apple dropped the ball on this one. I suppose it's unfair to expect them to wait until all software products have "caught up" to them but they did little to warn users about this issue, telling us that 32 bit applications would be a problem but not recommending we wait to install Catalina until problems like this were iron out. Since I fully expected to update my photo processing software anyway, this is a mild annoyance, not a catastrophe but I still think Mac should have coordinated better with a large manufacturer like Adobe or they should have warned their users better.

Also, when you run the update it puts up a window displaying a list of installed software that will NOT work after the upgrade and I had the option to back out at that point. I upgraded my desktop first and everything works great, after using it for a week I upgraded my laptop yesterday which also went without problems. MS Office 2012 no longer works but it told me about it before the upgrade. I don’t need it anymore so that was fine by me.

Iff you have an SSD drive, Catalina will auto convert it to the APFS file system. No choice.

This happened 2 versions ago with High Sierra

My Mac is a 2014 build so, if mine works, more current builds should be able to handle Catalina.

It's not so much the age of the Mac as the age of the application, Catalina only supports 64 bit applications. Likely the older versions of LightRoom some folks are using will no longer run - ever. Same for the older free(?) versions of PhotoShop suite. If the vendor hasn't updated their software to be 64 bit, it's done.

There may be a problem with TeamViewer on Catalina. Lots of folks use it, so be warned. Also, when Catalina is ready, it prompts you for a, "new" Apple ID,
think long and hard. If you have used, "JoeBlow@me.com" for your past Apple ID, Catalina won't let you use, "@me.com" for some reason. So I changed to something fictitious, after all, it's just an ID, right? Now,I think I may have to do more than simply reload....DONT UPGRADE TO CATALINA RIGHT NOW..WAIT UNTIL ?????? Everyone is having different problems, my local Mac shop is not thrilled.

I'd be amazed if they required a new apple id - all your purchases you've ever made would be gone. Music, apps, etc... and, at least in the past, Apple does not allow you to transfer purchases from one account to another.

Since you’re looking into your catalog backups, why not make some changes? Update the location to an external drive, even if it’s just a usb flash drive you leave plugged in. I have my backup save to a folder within my local Google Drive sync folder so backups automatically get saved to cloud storage for an offsite option.

I totally agree with sloscheider about getting 32 gigs of RAM. I love my PRO laptop in all respects, except that it keeps telling me that I'm reaching capacity. Bummer, because I just returned from a month-long vacation in Europe and have some 1500 RAW pictures I want to download, but my laptop seems to have run out of space.

You're running out of disk space not RAM. On my older 2014 MB Pro I only have a 256 gig SSD and only store my current projects on it. The rest of my images I move to an external hard drive that gets mirrored on a regular basis. With SSD's you want to leave at least 25% free space to promote longevity. When I'm out doing a shoot I may drop to about 20 gig free but normally I've got around 100 of the 250 gig free.

Right, only the iMacs and Mac Mini’s can be upgraded, as far as I know.

I got really lucky and got the 2015 version of that model for $400 - everything was maxed for the model year! The guy bought it through a payroll deduction deal and didn't pay attention to what his total price was, after I paid him he said "Now that we're done, did I charge enough?"

It may seem like a thing of the past, but using a desktop model of computer is still a popular choice for offices that require a large amount of the same system or business centers and conference rooms where people may be doing work for long periods of time. Also, there are people who like this ability at home as well: to have a dedicated spot to sit and complete any work or tasks that need to get completed. If you want to have a dedicated work space at home where you can get some things done with some privacy or without distractions, your best bet may be to look into a used iMac.

With Mac of All Trades, you can get some of the best Apple products for a great price and still get superb performance and quality. There are several benefits to a used iMac that can make this decision that much easier. Today, we will look at these reasons as you consider your decision.

Simple Setup - When you think of desktop computers, you may think of bulky monitors, power sources, and all sorts of parts that help it function. An iMac is very different. The monitors are very thin and easy to move, and the body of the monitor contains everything you need for the computer to function; even the USB and other ports are built into the body. It makes getting everything connected and starting to use your computer quick and easy.

Larger Display - You can do a lot of things on the go with an Apple MacBook, and those devices come with perfectly capable screens. That said, you can get Apple iMacs with even larger screens that show muchmore detail. A 21.5-inch or larger iMac can be perfect for tasks requiring intensive graphics processing, like graphic design. The large screen can also be great for gaming and entertainment. Being able to see the fine details and getting the best display on the market is a great feature you can get from a used iMac.

Built-in Virus Protection - One of the best features of Apple computers is their proprietary security features that arebuilt into Apple’s operating system. No computer is completely invulnerable to viruses, but rather than install a bunch of third-party virus protection programsthat can slow your computer down, you can go full speed ahead with your iMac and not worry about adding additional virus protection software. Apple puts a lot of emphasis on security and keeping your files and data safe so you can just enjoy the features of your computer.

When you want to find a used iMac for your home that is at a great price and offers all of the great features that you get when you shop new, choose a place that ensures you are getting a quality product. Choose Mac of All Trades and get products that you will use for years to come.Use Mac of All Trades’ expert team to get an understanding for which product is best for you and purchase the perfect used iMac for you today.

I agree BUT consider getting the 32 gigs of RAM just because there is NO future upgrade option.

There are known issues with various TOYOTA implementations of BluTooth. My iPhone works perfectly in a 2009 Prius. It has serious issues in our 2010 and 2015 Prii. One of those is a supposed safety issue. Not all versions and implementations are the same.

Hmmmm, that makes me wonder if it's an Apple issue or a Toyota issue

I find myself in the same position - once a fan-boi but in the past few years Apple has created ever more problems - forcing then dropping Thunderbolt interfaces on the iMac, forcing you to use the Apple branded wall wart to charge the iPad Mini (which suddenly became a requirement after an iOS upgrade), screwing up Bluetooth connectivity on the iPhone after various upgrades to the iOS, and having the maps program (Apple's or Google's) speaking capability just stop working for no apparent reasons.

I haven't experience any of these issues... I like thunderbolt old and new versions - thought about a 10,000 mah external USB C battery is now one of the easiest ways to power your laptop beyond the limits of it's internal battery - way cool! I charge my Mini with all sorts of charger and none of them are Apple branded. No bluetooth problems with any of 5 devices (2 iPads, 2 MacBooks, 1 iPhone) - I routinely use 7 different speakers, car stereos, headsets/headphones... Maps still works great on all the devices too.

I'm not arguing, just saying maybe there's something else going on with your device(s)?
