Have you ever missed that great shot by just a 1/2 second. If you have been a photographer for more than a short time I'm sure you have, perhaps often. This morning I missed mine. As I was leaving a local park I saw a nice Red-tailed Hawk in a tree by the road. Just as I got the camera up while still avoiding an accident he took off. I'm posting the pic anyway because of the beauty of the Hawk & to share my frustration with all who have "been there, done that". Added a couple more to show the morning wasn't a total loss.

Last Saturday started as a cold but clear day. I've been watching the birds come thru this part of Michigan on their way South for several weeks now. Many of the ducks have already headed out but the Canada Geese are still around in large numbers. Sat by the marsh for 2 or 3 hrs just watching & listening to them. They make a terrific racket, honking & squawking, just before they take to the air. Not sure if they are encouraging each other or arguing about who gets to lead.

When I see a sunrise like the one this morning I understand the Egyptians worshiping RA, the Sun God.

Yesterday I went to one of our local metro parks where a variety of both eagles & hawks have recently been seen. None to be found, yet the day was not a total loss.

Both solar & wind energy have great problems & in some ways are ecologically as damaging to the planet as are fossil fuels. A 100MW wind farm will supply enough energy to power 75,00 homes. However it requires 30,000 tons of iron ore, 50,000 tons of concrete & 900 tons of non-recyclable plastic to build. Batteries are needed to store all that energy. We have to reinvent the battery because we cannot enough at our current rate of manufacture. In addition, all of the above require large amounts of rare earth earth metals such as copper, lithium, cobalt, iradium & dysprosium. Most are available only in countries that don't like us very much. Some times I'm glad I'm old.

Pics were taken in South East MI. There is a shallow, sheltered cove on a nearby lake. The ducks & geese love it, the bugs, water grasses & hidy places are plentiful. The only real danger is from the Bald Eagles in the area. I was under a tree behind some shore foliage & wearing camo. A couple of the photos had some serious cropping also.

Photo was in South Eastern MI. The birding was only so-so. They need to slow down & fly in a straight line or I need, somehow, to get younger.

Out early to catch birds in flight at a local park. Turned to my right & saw the sunrise hitting the trees. Very little post processing except to remove a park bench that I felt to be a distraction.

One of Canon's workhorse L series lens, great for sports or nature photography. The glass is perfect with no fungus, haze, separation & little on no dust. The body is in great shape with minimal wear. It has no dents with only a few scuffs or scratches. The focus is extremely quick & accurate I no longer use the lens enough to justify keeping it. Asking $750(reduced to $695 firm) plus postage. The last 3 photos were taken by this lens. As you can see it gives sharp images in a variety of uses.

I too am a graduate of that academy of arty learning. Just loved the gentle, warm and sun-kissed summer days and beautiful downtown Lawton. When I was there bars & alcohol were illegal, however, for the sum of one dollar you could get a yearly membership to a private club where alcohol was legal. Fun times. (There may be some sarcasm included in this post.)

I've been trying to improve my BIF technique. It should would help if they would slow down & fly in a straight line. 4 birds & a bee.

An old couple had just set down for breakfast when John's wife Margaret asked him, "if I died before you, would you remarry?"
A bit perturbed John replied that he felt this a horrible subject for the breakfast table & that she should not be thinking like that.
Margaret, however, could not let it go and pestered John for several days with the same question.
Finally one day John having enough of this drama, relented and replied, "I'm not sure, but yes, I probably would remarry."
Margaret then asked, "would you sell the house?"
John replied, "no I don't think so, it's a fine house. Why would I sell it?"
Margaret then asked, " well would you sell our bed?"
John, now getting a bit exasperated, replied, " no I would not sell our bed."
Margaret's next question was, "well would you let her use my golf clubs?"
John's reply was, "no, no, I couldn't do that, she's left-handed."
