You are probably starting to move the camera to recompose before your finger is off the button. I had the same problem.

Related to using a reader-It should go without saying that one needs to be careful when reinserting the card in the camera. Careless insertion can result in a damaged slot.

I have booked a room in Oaxaca de Juárez!. Is this a good location?

It is a large city nestled in the mountains. Last I was there in 2013. It is a very busy city. If you speak good Spanish and know how to blend in, just be careful and you should be okay. Do not be an obvious tourist. There should be plenty of celebrations in the city. The most authentic dia de los muertos celebrations would be found in the outlying small villages but people there tend to be pretty superstitious. Be sure to check out the cemeteries. The decorations are astounding. The architecture in the city is magnificent . Mitla is not too far away. I'll see if I can dig out a couple of pics and reply with them if that is okay.

Lowes. Give the cashier my phone number. Show my VA ID card and discount applied. Yes, a registration was required so they could verify my status. It is a way to minimize fraud.

I'm planning a 10 day trip into Mexico to photograph the Day of the Dead.
Looking for any suggestion about the event. My base will be in Oaxaca, Mexico.

What part of Oaxaca? Ciudad Oaxaca or another part of the state?

Brings back memories of my days as a printer. Process camera for making the negatives used to burn the plates for offset printing and making halftones of photos and such. Essentially just a big camera.

Hi, Bill,
The impact is strong because your proposed concept is incredibly well fulfilled by the perspective you chose to image it! IMO no better composition could have been arranged. That ”corridor of 5he present” leading away to the right with its “window views” between 5he trees on the left side of the corridor to the left into the past is a most effective trope!
I agree with RG that the graveyard could be better defined with a touch more local contrast.
IMO the B&W can be further d3veloped more eff3ctively than can the color version.

A teriffic concept well captured!

surreal - I like it a lot. For me it started about the massive dark trees - that is where I began. And then the bright splash of light, and Then, and only then do I see the stones and the discovery hits me hard. I like Linda's description of magical/spiritual and in turn it leads to a blinding eternal.

We are all different and we all process images internally in a different way - definitely one shoe does not fit all.

If you were seeking a different yet similar feel, perhaps get the stones to be less blown out and replace the blinding eternal with a foggy/spooky duller mystery - but I kind of like it the way you did it.

I saw it in Gallery and called it "magical." That may not be the best word to describe my feeling, but I definitely see it as something positive, not spooky. Maybe angelic? Or good Samaritan ghosts?

I see what Salvage Diver is saying about the composition, but for me it would feel too tightly constrained without the row of trees, ground and those other pretty leaves. While my attention is momentarily drawn there, the gravestones are a strong enough subject - as pp'd - to draw me back quickly.

If this had been edited traditionally and/or in color, I might have a different response both to the mood and the composition.

For grins, here is a color version.

A quick hijack of Bill's topic if I may: StanMac, I think photos #2 and #3 of the below posting
https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-556716-1.html
are very strong stories. If you are interested in working on "themes" via processing, please don't hesitate to post a photo to this section and ask for edits and ideas. As for skill, it can be helpful to list a few specific goals and then read/view videos/practice those until mastered. Trying to learn everything at once rarely works out

(thanks for the time-out, Bill!)

I have no problem with comments which further photography education. It's the off topic rants that diminish the value of UHH.

Thank you to all for the comments. Living in southern Kentucky is much easier on the blood pressure. Less crowded, nicer people and lovely countryside. When I visit family in northern Illinois, I can feel the stress.

It is a faux infrared. I was intending the ghostly look. The leaves on the ground and in the trees were actually bright yellow.
