Oman's highest mountain, Jebel Shams (Mountain of the Sun - 3009 m) is best known not for its peak but for the view into the spectacularly deep Wadi Ghul lying alongside it. The straight-sided Wadi Ghul is known locally as the Grand Canyon of Arabia, as it fissures abruptly between the flat canyon rims, exposing vertical cliffs of 1000 m and more. There are some well-established hikes here, the most famous of which is the "Balcony Walk" below the canyon rim.

I look forward to your comments and questions and recommend viewing the downloads.

Joe, spectacular shots. How accessible was this canyon? It feels like the kind of place that would take days of hiking to reach. How far away from civilization were you?

Glad you liked my pics. The conversion to B&W was a must.

I'm a little late to this post but here is a portion of two bridges. One is in Hong Kong and the other on the Danube.

This is a sculpture from a church garden in France. Because the background was uninteresting and distracting, I converted the image to B&W.

From the orderly serenity of the last 2 posts at the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, we move on to the organized chaos of the busy local fish market in Muttrah, an ancient district of Oman's capital city Muscat.

Before the discovery of oil, Muttrah was the center of commerce in Oman. It is still a center, as one of the largest sea ports of the region is located here. Other landmarks include the Muttrah Souq, a traditioal bazaar, the Muttrah Corniche with a promenade along the water and of course, the Muttrah Fish Market, which we visit in this set. As you can see, this is a live market, simple and basic with simple scales, small and large fish presented in trays or lying on mats on the floor or even displayed on the tailgate of a truck parked outside the market. The fish are fresh, the catch is of the morning and they move fast. From the first picture, you can also see that purchasing (and selling) is very much a man's job in Oman and basically in the Arab world, there is only one woman in the rear and she looks like a domestic helper, not native to the country.

If anybody here is knowledgeable about fish: I would appreciate it if any of the fish here shown could be identified and I would love to have the names, so that I can update my albums. Thank you very much.

For best colors and details, please consider viewing in download.

Joe, as soon as I saw Oman in the subject line I knew it was you. Looks like an interesting fishing trip. I'm guessing that the big fish are tuna as I noticed the tiny triangle shapes on the bottom of their tails. Going to have to check out your website to see what you have been up to.

Beautiful photo; we'll add it to our list.

We were in Barcelona in 1973, had 5 nights booked there the first week in April (cancelled due to COVID-19) and were supposed to have ended a cruise there in a week. However, we re-booked the cruise and will have 3 days there in two years. Something to look forward to.

Barcelona is a beautiful and interesting city. You’re going to have a ball.

I'm with you on the crop. However, this was one of those spur of the moment captures with no time to set up the shot. This was the best I could do with what I had with the original shot.

This photo was taken in Millennium Park in Chicago about 10 years ago. For me, I sometimes feel that the right caption can enhance the image by setting up an expectation for the viewer. Obviously, I chose a paraphrase of the movie title "Singing in the Rain". I thought "Sneaking in the Rain" was a good play on the kid approaching his friends around the corner.

This photo was taken from a moving car. You see lots of weird things in India but this was one of the most fun. I am sure numerous laws were being broken but I doubt that anyone cared.

This was created for B+W. Great shot!

Glad you liked it. I knew when I took it that the lack of people in the shot would make it unique. Within 10 minutes there were hundreds of people in the square.

I have been several times in Venezia when I was in Italy and my archive is full of photos taken during the carnival time and after too , Venezia is one of the photographic site most wanted in the world , i prefer black and white photos on this subject , your photo is great

There is almost no place in Venice that you can't create an interesting photo. A few minutes before I took the picture you commented on I took this photo. I had it printed on canvas and it now hangs on my living room wall. This was just a few minutes after sunrise and there was almost no one in St. Mark Square. While it is not B&W it has a monochrome feel. One of my best shots ever. View in download. Let me know what you think.

The "washout" is not bad at all. A great architecture shot. I like your handling of the verticals.

I've been in St Mark Square on 4 different occasions and took similar shots and never liked them. I played with this out of boredom and I thought the results were pretty good. Thanks for you generous comments.

At first I didn't think much for the image. But one I cloned out some people and did the B&W it really changes.
