The Killer . . . A primal force in music and the king of Rock and Roll. His distinctive voice and incredible live performances will be long remembered. The only thing missing in the highlight reel is him playing “keyboard cover”. It is impossible to hold back a smile when he plays boogie woogie. I will miss him.

Adobe is now on Version 2023. The out of subscription versions are supposed to allow simple processing even out of subscription. Perhaps Adobe is willing to trouble shoot your problem, or you could re-subscribe on a trial basis and see if the latest version will do what you want. The latest versions are pretty terrific.

I shows up on this site as a squirrel incompletely cut out and mispositioned in the frame. I cannot believe that is what you were trying to accomplish.

This is a reality for me. The good news is the pleasure I get from playing badly is inversely proportional to the quality of the music I produce.

Without an autopsy there is no way to know what someone died from. The journalist’s job is to report only the verifiable information.

Cameras are dumb. They respond to the amount of light available or provided to them. The first thing you should try to wrap your head around is how shutter, ISO, and aperture interact to determine exposure.
For years I thought that the camera (and the flash) could be set to automatically do most of the thinking for me. Sometimes they can, but often the results are disappointing.
There is a great deal to learn and I suggest lots of reading and experimentation. There are plenty of free resources. An attached flash will always give you more options than the built in unit, a unit that you can activate off camera is better yet. An inexpensive manual unit will suffice. A brand specific TTL flash will try to do much of the work for you. Your in camera menu will control how it all comes together.
Still, light is iight is light whether it comes through a window, a flashlight, a strobe, or even a candle. Once you understand the basics you can move on to light modifiers.

Steve,

About a year and a half ago, I bought a Nikon z5 with a 24-200 lens used from BH. It 'only' had a rating of 8.5, and was priced about 1/3 less than new would have been.

When it arrived -- other than missing the box, everything was in perfect condition. The shutter had 10 clicks on it (not a typo), and it had warranty cards that were accepted by Nikon when I tried to register it.

What happened? Shrugs. Sometimes you get lucky.

It all comes down to risk aversion. New vs (some form of) used. Manufacturer’s warranty, store warranty, sellers eBay promise.

Stant52…perhaps you confuse “kind” with “honest”. I did not see any responses that were impolite; and if one seeks advice facts sometimes get in the way of being a Pollyanna.

On a Nikon, first you need to set the focus mode to continuous, or AF-C. That allows the back button to focus continually when held down, and just once when pressed just once. (Most Nikon DSLRs have a button on the auto-to-manual focus switch towards the front left — hold this button and use the back control wheel to select AF-C).
Next, you need to tell the camera what button you want to use for focusing. On high-end Nikon DSLRs, there’s often a dedicated AF-ON button, but the AE AF Lock can also be used for back button focusing. To set the control, head into the menu, then Custom Settings then Controls9. Set the control for the AF-ON or AE AF Lock to AF-ON.
Then, go back to the custom settings menu and select the autofocus submenu. Under AF C Priority Selection, select ‘Choose Release.’ This lets you take photos even if your autofocus point isn’t on the subject, such as when you lock the focus then recompose.
One last step — still inside the autofocus menu under custom settings, go to AF Activation and select AF-On only.

Isn’t it a bit late to be asking after the sale was completed? There are alternate sources for used equipment that comes with a warranty.

Grew up in N.Y.C.. Virtually impossible to avoid going into buildings over 3 stories.

I do not have the statistics, but the odds of a building collapsing while you are in it are probably infinitesimally small. Probably greater risk of being hit by something falling out of a window from a high floor.

I'm afraid that hoping and praying are all you can count on.

Yes. In America we offer condolences, regrets, and promises of improvement and then largely put the issues behind us.

Where are the criminal charges? Maybe fear of time in prison would motivate more ethical and competent behavior. Pay-out$ can largely be shrugged off or passed on to stock holders.

You don't know me and your assessment of my “limited appreciation” is unnecessarily insulting. I wasn’t looking for a professional repair job, just some guidance. I was simply thanking someone for going beyond my expectations and helping me tremendously. Please do me a favor and ignore my posts in the future so you can avoid my ‘limited appreciation’ .

When you write “ Wow! Can you tell me how or at least what software you used? This terrific.” (sic) and admit that you have little experience with post processing, and that your present software doesn’t do what is necessary to make the repair, I think my choice of language was accurate. It wasn’t meant to be insulting, just descriptive. I truly am glad you got the information you wanted. Incidentally, I admit to a “limited appreciation” of lots of things. Among them hip hop music, performance art, vegetarian cuisine . . . And when I am reminded of these facts I take the comments as good reason to expand my knowledge.

To LESDMD, the hair was the effect by the healing brush and could be touched up further. This was just a quick fix. More time and small detailed healing and cloning could provide a better outcome but that is not for me to do. This redo was just provided to show the possibilities of repair and not a "professional" repair job. Celtis87, you're welcome and I wish you good success in your edit! RJW

You managed to take my comment personally. It was addressed to the owner of the original photo who seems to have limited appreciation of what a "professional" repair job can do.
You are indeed correct, it is not your job to carry the post processing to that extent. You did a fine job of demonstrating what a quick fix can accomplish.
