You're right that budget is a factor, especially when I may need the new R lens to supplement my EF-S kit lenses and an old Tokina EF 80-400.

Would you mind posting a straight out of the camera picture of stars (some light pollution is ok), bird, landscape, and building with shadows? If you could mention the lens you're using that would be even better. Thank you!

Here is a good source of sample images and an honest review. I don't post many images, but you could check my topics list for the few I did post. To do that click my user name, then the little number next to topics created. My most recent gallery post with an ef 100-400 lens and 1.4x converter. https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-684242-1.html

Some do, some don't. The Canon RP has the sensor exposed and it can only shoot electronic front curtain/mechanical back curtain shutter or fully electronic silent shutter. No fully mechanical shutter. Others like the Canon R, R6, R5 have a front cover and can also shoot fully mechanical shutter.

I’ve had the same experience with learning about #2 ha ha!

Would it be a mistake to settle for the RP? Does it have decent in camera stabilization?I’m interested in landscapes, birds and wildlife, some portraits, and hopefully the Milky Way.

Let me know if I’m hijacking your post and I’ll ask the admin to remove this.

I have the RP and it is not in the same league with the R5. It has no in camera stabilization, but the R5 also exceeds it by far on every other test and spec. Speed, autofocus, dynamic range, low light, high iso, resolution, you name the test or spec. That said you can buy 4 RP's for one R5, and for the money it is a very good camera and a fine choice if a $1000 camera is what is in your budget.

It is not intuitive, but there is no free lunch on cropping. When you crop you get somewhat less dynamic range. There is a formula for how much cropping equals how much loss of dynamic range, but I don't know it exactly.

Wow, really nicely shot and processed. Hard to pick a favorite but I have to go with the last one.

I think your best bet in all the good options given is to try the free Nikon software compatible with your camera to convert the raw file. For my Canon I use the dpp4 software that came as a free download with the camera. I imagine Nikon has a similar setup. Even though I have subscription Lightroom and Photoshop I still like to have full control in software over all the original in-camera settings. I slide my sliders and get pretty close, then send the tiff to Photoshop to finish up. The Canon software remembers my raw edits so it can be tweaked anytime, again assuming Nikon is similar.

Its a revolving door.... Think of all the names you used to see on a reg. basis 5 years ago and now you never see ! Then think of all the new names that are asking the same questions.... If folks got tired of answering the same questions we would have a hard time finding teachers for our kids. This is a diversified site with lots of topic areas.... You don't have to respond to EVERYTHING. As the song goes, " Just walk on by, wait on the corner ".

I miss Reg too. Safe to say reg. basis was my favorite basis.

Does that work in DuckDuckGo?

Or has that been asked before?

If the search engine is set to Google, sure. I don't know for other search engines.

Zeiss or Nikon lens cleaning packets. Blow off with rocket blower, use the edge of the folded up pad to gently knock off any possible grit, open up pad and wipe from outside in, don't let any moisture get near the edges, wish for a $12,000 lens.

One avenue you might consider when you have a question is to use the Search function on the site to look up all the previous answers to the same or similar question. I often use this feature.

This helps in Google site:uglyhedgehog.com your question.

Insurance has very clear definitions sometimes regulated by the state. Replacement, actual cash value, and so on. Some states say you aren't supposed to make a profit on insurance, I'd guess to protect against the scam of buying undervalued properly then destroying it for the insurance profit. Not saying that is you, but the insurance company doesn't know you personally. Ask the insurer to exactly define the coverage and be happy to get back what you paid.

I have been a member of UHH for a few years now, and one thing kind of bugs me. When some member asks a question, without fail, one or several members will chide in, saying "That question has been asked before." So, it prompts me to think, is there possibly a "valid" question a member can ask that has not, in some fashion, been asked before?

It's not about the questions.

I believe .xmp files are not images but what are called sidecars. They carry the recipe for the edits that might have been made in a program like lightroom or photoshop, but have to be associated with the main file of the same name but different suffix to be useful.

Thanks for all the great feed back. I have heard the 6d is good in low light. I would go used if I can. I shoot in jpeg because I don't know how to shoot raw and edit them in photo shop. I still have lots to learn. I mostly use my sigma 18-300 lens. but do own a ef24-105f4 lens. mostly wanted something better to shoot photos inside. I don't have any samples to post. you guys are great. I am new to this site. so thanks for being kind.

The mirrorless full frame canon RP has exactly the same sensor as the 6Dii. To me the benefits of mirrorless make the RP the easy choice.
