Yes the town is a great town to live in, been here for 41years and still fine it amazing along the water front. I have many animals that come an feed at my bird feeder, that's what keeps me getting up early to make sure they have food and fresh water.

This picture was taken with a Cannon 50mm lens on a cloudy day in my back yard. I was taken this year by the lack of bees since I have many different flowers around. When I saw the bumble bee enter into the Rose of Sharon bud I just had to try to get the pic, it was a rush shot but then again it was fun watching the bee roll around getting covered in pollen. I really enjoying learning to better myself in taking photo's.

Thank You all, I haven't used my 50mm lens for sunrise pictures. I will also try my 35mm.

Still trying different lens for early morning shots of sunrise, These were taken with a 55-250 mm Cannon lens, I also tried a Cannon 70-300 mm lens which seems to give good results. Not sure if I should step down to using a fixed lens, such as a wide angel or a 50mm lens. Like to know what other lens people use.
Thanks

Thank You, I too am retired and learning a new hobby. Its fun so far and I'm a early riser so mornings are great for me. You'd be surprised at what comes along while you out and about.

For a first try, those are great. The one with the trees is excellent. It is hard to get the moon solo without a very long lens. You've done well.

Thank You,
I'll keep trying not sure if I can afford a 400mm lens to replace the one I'm using 70-300mm

After seeing how clear it was, I thought I'd try what has been read so far in my learnings. I yet to master using the manual mode on the camera, learning when to change setting etc. Lens used was A Canon 70-300, setting used in manual mode were,1/200,F10, and ISO 100. At least being out in my yard that early, I made friends with a raccoon who was on his way to my bird feeder for a drink we just kept our distance from each other and it all worked out. The second picture was just before sun rise.

Frist attempt early 03:30

Thank you for your great comment. I have gone a little crazy buying gear, but I did manage to purchase a very strong Tri-Pod which is helping a lot. I have bought DVD's from National Geographic regarding "Fundamentals of Photography". They are a great start in learning and I think they should help all people just starting out.

Thank you. Very good advise you have given me, I seem to try to rush my learning of taking photos, I just need to slow down a little.

After reading many, many books on photography, I seem to not understand which lens is best to start with? My camera is a Cannon Rebel SL 1/100D. I was told it would be a good camera for an extreme low knowledge of photography person such as myself.
Lens I have so far: Cannon 50 mm, Cannon 70-300 mm, Cannon 18-55mm, Plus two attachments "2.2X High Definition AF Telephoto Lens" an a "0.43 High Definition Wide Angele Lens". I have included two pictures taken with the 50mm lens. Thanks for reading this.
