Still trying different lens for early morning shots of sunrise, These were taken with a 55-250 mm Cannon lens, I also tried a Cannon 70-300 mm lens which seems to give good results. Not sure if I should step down to using a fixed lens, such as a wide angel or a 50mm lens. Like to know what other lens people use.
Thanks

It's all about composition. What do you want to show? As much of the sky as possible? A framed portion of the sky? Some of the sky and some interesting landscape? It seems to me that there is no one correct lens .
Most of my sunrise/sunsets have been 50mm or wider, fixed.
Usually a sweeping view works better. You don't normally look up at a sunset and see only a slice of it. Your eye wants to wander. A slice of sunset just doesn't hold your attention.
I think sunsets are more arresting when they include interesting components- people, buildings, docks, boats, birds, landscapes etc. And some earth grounds it.
I can only speak in my behalf and I usually use a normal lens or a wide angle zoom.
I like my 35mm lens, but to each his / her own.
Thank You all, I haven't used my 50mm lens for sunrise pictures. I will also try my 35mm.
