That is a lie. Whelan is NOT a U.S. Marine. He is a dishonorably discharged former Marine Corps Reserve enlistee, who served 5 years as an administrative clerk in Iraq from 2003-2008 and was then courtmartialed for larceny and other offences after being found to have tried to steal $10,000.

The exact charges were: "attempted larceny, three specifications of dereliction of duty, making a false official statement, wrongfully using another’s social security number, and ten specifications of making and uttering checks without having sufficient funds in his account for payment."

In the early 1960s, theft was the problem in the P.I. Nothing was safe, but very little robbery or violence. I was told by someone who lived there, that prior to WWII, you could "lay a Peso in the middle of the street and it would be safe". WWII, corrupted the society. It appears the P.I., has gotten much, much worse in the past 60 years. Sorry to hear that.

SteveR: South Dakota State University at Brookings, are da Jackrabbits. I have seen coyotes in the city limits of where I live; a city of not quite 200,000. Actually feel kind of sorry for them. First of all they are possibly one of the mangiest critters ever. Always seem to be slinking. No one likes them except other coyotes. They kill pet animals. Probably have bad breath too.

But they are one of God's creatures.

Time for the University of South Dakota to get a different mascot. Coyotes are only funny in cartoons.

If indeed professional photography equipment is being stolen, I doubt it is for the personal use of the thief or robber. Somewhere there is a professional photographer or advanced amateur buying it. How and where are the criminals flogging the stolen gear?

Actually the sign reads "Lumberton, NC Mexico" That's when I went to a web site showing old buildings in Lumberton, NC, and this building was pictured. Looking at a web site supposedly showing old buildings in Lumberton, NM, it doesn't show up except as an old building in Lumberton, NC. I believe we have the makings of a mystery.
