Generally when a building says "Lumberton, New Mexico" it is in Lumberton, New Mexico.
Besides I have never been to Lumberton, NC and I doubt the landscape would look anything close to what is shown.

The "W" in "NEW" is very faded (as well as the XI) and the "E" in NEW kinda looks like a "C".
Since it also has "Mexico" at the end, I'll go with Lumberton, NM.

Actually the sign reads "Lumberton, NC Mexico" That's when I went to a web site showing old buildings in Lumberton, NC, and this building was pictured. Looking at a web site supposedly showing old buildings in Lumberton, NM, it doesn't show up except as an old building in Lumberton, NC. I believe we have the makings of a mystery.

I am not sure how old the naysayers are or the know it all's are.

The caption is NM.
PS I googled "Old buildings in Lumberton, NC" and do not see my photo there or the building.
