Second, in a trip to Ireland in 2017, I took my D5300 and my Tamron 18-400 and my Nikon 10-20. That taught me that I didn’t need to take the Tamron off the camera. So, in 2018, on another trip to Ireland, that’s what I took. QED.

I find it ironic and sad that, on UHH, we discuss photography as art and art as photography and some of us don’t seem to respect the performing arts in this instance. As the father of a daughter who majored in theatre in college and acted during her college years, I can tell you that even without flash, photographing distracts and thus disrespects the actors. Many times, the production team will arrange for photography during dress rehearsals — for the production’s “official” photographer especially. But with the right request, cast members’ friends and relatives can participate. That’s the proper and respectful way to do it.
