Cherokee, NC is a little more than an hour from Pigeon Forge. It’s worth a visit to learn abut the native American culture. The reservation and its people want us to understand the Cherokees’ tragic story.

Yes. You can run several browsers concurrently depending on how much RAM you have. Chrome is a known memory hog and can crash with too many tabs open. Hope this helps OP.

First, you know you’ll regret not having your DSLR when you see the cell phone photo didn’t come close to what you wanted.

Second, in a trip to Ireland in 2017, I took my D5300 and my Tamron 18-400 and my Nikon 10-20. That taught me that I didn’t need to take the Tamron off the camera. So, in 2018, on another trip to Ireland, that’s what I took. QED.

You could use a Google search feature where you specifiy the key words and then the site. For example:

"resources and photography" site: www.uglyhedgehog.com returns this search:

Yeah, I've got another batch of homemade yogurt in the fridge and it should be ready at about 1430 this afternoon. I might make more yogurt with chocolate milk tomorrow.

You know, a Google search would have saved you the trouble of posting this question.

Here's the main search. You can then decide how to respond after looking through this information.

And here's a more definitive entry.

You see things differently—fine. You sound angry

There’s nothing wrong with being angry. I am picking this battle to defend the right of other artists to practice their art as they deserve to and with the respect they have earned.

I find it ironic and sad that, on UHH, we discuss photography as art and art as photography and some of us don’t seem to respect the performing arts in this instance. All of this excuse-making for deliberately violating a request to enjoy the art of others bothers me because it implies other inappropriate behaviors reeking of privilege. For example, would those of you supporting this intrusion feel the same way if you asked people to not jump in front of your camera while making a photograph and they did so anyway? What defense would you mount for them?

I would think that the “rights” we’ve earned as grandparents and older people are equally responsibilities — obligations to set good examples for those for whom we model.

I repeat: This performance couldn’t have been a surprise and there were ways, with a little forethought, to capture this memory without intruding on the performers and the audience.

A few years ago, I would have been critical of the arrogance of knowingly breaking a rule; but as a 70 year old grandfather, I understand completely and say “No big deal”. Treasure the image. You have earned the right.”

Wow! So, at age 70, what other rules have you earned the right to spurn? I'm a 77-year-old grandfather. Please tell me what others' rules and laws I've earned the rights to ignore?

I stand by my posts on this thread.

Some of you have been able to understand the idea of a grandfather’s lasting memory of see his grandson on stage it was not enough to for the future, he had to take a picture with an iPhone 11, no flash was used and the iPhone was between two heads seating ahead of him. Yes it was wrong but no crime was committed.

You reek of entitlement and privilege. And f**king arrogance. And disrespect and regard for others. As I poiinted out before, you could have accomplished saving a memory by thinking beyond your selfish self.

As the father of a daughter who majored in theatre in college and acted during her college years, I can tell you that even without flash, photographing distracts and thus disrespects the actors. Many times, the production team will arrange for photography during dress rehearsals — for the production’s “official” photographer especially. But with the right request, cast members’ friends and relatives can participate. That’s the proper and respectful way to do it.

Another option would be to install belarc advisor on your old machine. It brings up serial numbers and, IIRCC, keys.
