Hi Hogs!

I'm looking for a compact camera for times when I don't want to lug my big, heavy Nikon dslr gear. I read good things about this little Leica and wanted to know if anyone has experience with it. I'm looking for something with great image quality, a viewfinder, RAW, full manual, and a size that fits in a purse. Thanks in advance for your responses.

As you can see while Canon and Nikon still have not figured out what to do with mirrorless cameras Olympus, Sony and Fuji are way ahead in the game.

You're right, Camerapapi. I'm Nikon loyal but I'm also tired of waiting!

I agree with sergiohm, no viewfinder, no sale. Too hard to see a screen in the sun.

Good point, sergiohm and Bo0mer.

Could be good - and probably will - but I don't like the term "entry level." Even as a beginner, I would like to start several steps up the ladder. I look forward to reviews, but I hope I'm not tempted to buy one. : )

Nice specs -

Jerry, thanks for the reply. I know, I hope that I'm not tempted but it looks good so far. I have a whole Nikon DSLR kit that I'm really happy with and have been waiting for their mirrorless for a smaller travel bag, but at that price ...

Just saw the Fuji X-A5 announcement. Looks like a powerful little mirrorless, especially for the price of $599 with kit lens. Has anyone handled one yet? I'd be interested to hear your thoughts! Thanks in advance.

Thank you for your endorsement of Breakthrough. I don't know if I should go with the 100 or wait for the 150 due in the next couple of weeks.

Thanks, JC. These are great ideas. I will definitely check out the Xume products!

I’m in search of a filter system to accommodate my arsenal of lenses (Nikon Holy Trinity 2.8, 35 1.4, 50 1.4, 85 1.4, 105 2.8, 18 - 200 dx) and, because of the 14-24 problem child, I have been looking at the Lee and Cokin systems. My research has shown that Breaththrough is a great filter system with virtually no color cast, and they have an X-100 system similar to Lee and Cokin in that you can buy a holder and then adapters to fit each mm of your lens kit with the square filters of your choosing. I spoke with a product manager from Breakthrough and he told me that they are about to come out with a magnetic filter system in January that will eliminate lens leak. Announcements are due in the next few weeks. Yet, even with their new system, one still must buy a totally separate rig to accommodate the 14-24, the one I have on the beach or on the water and always in most need of ND.

I would value all of your opinions on how to get the best filter system for the variety of mm lenses without having to buy a dedicated filter for each one. I shoot landscapes/seascapes and beach portraits on a D750 and D7100 with the above-mentioned kit of lenses. Happy Thanksgiving, Awesome Hogs!

I'm soliciting advice from those who have used professional photo printing services. For the first time, I have actually been asked to exhibit my photos and I want the most professional appearance of them possible, without breaking the bank.

I did some preliminary printing using a color laser printer in my office. It was from these that the invitation was generated. I know using stock printer paper is not a good idea, so I can only believe using quality paper will be better. So, as an experiment, I had several shots printed at my local Walgreen's. Sure enough, the paper improved the overall image quality, but I'm thinking my photos will be hanging on a wall, so they should have good paper, a matte, and a frame.

I can probably manage the framing, but the chief item is the print itself. I've looked at Bay Photo Labs, Simply Color Labs, CG Pro Prints, and even Costco (yes, I know I'm all over the map)!

So what do you -- the pros who actually show and sell your prints -- use? Any tips (like don't let Costco "autocorrect")?

I use White House Custom Color and Bay Photo. Both do an excellent job and offer extraordinary customer service. When you open an account with WHCC, they allow you to send 5 files to print as 8 x 10s for free to demonstrate their work and test calibration.

I also have used Adoramapix but was disappointed in the quality. I ordered an album as a gift and it arrived with a glue-y mess on the inside endpapers. They did replace the book with a clean one but I had to present the damaged one the day of the party, which was a little awkward.

Awesome, I have a D500 and I'm caught between the 610 and the 750 for a Full Frame. With what you have experienced with the 750 would you still recommend or would you not. The cost difference for a refurb is $400. Thanks in advance :-)

Absolutely! I LOVE the 750! It is phenomenal in low light and it's small and light for a full frame. Even in light of the service recall, I highly recommend it!

Hi James,

Yes, it turns out that I was on 3-D. I had never used that function so I didn't recognize the focus activity. All is well now and my baby is behaving beautifully! Thanks for your response.

I am so happy you got the correct answer. This very thing happened to me several months ago and I finally stumbled across what was going on. When your question came up I knew I had experienced the same thing but I could not remember just how I fixed it. Thanks to Sathca for denumbing my brain.

As with any advanced electronic gear operation, just like on humans, things sometimes do not go according to plan. I am sorry for your problems but you are not alone. I had to send my 200-500 Nikon lens in five times to finally get it right.
It is important to remember that Nikon WANTS you happy and they want to fix your camera right the first time. So, you need to contact Nikon, NOT US, and explain your problem to NIKON, NOT US. And they will work with you to fix your camera. Yes, you have been inconvenienced, so was I, FIVE TIMES, but Nikon did fix my lens in the end and I am now enjoying it once again. So, hang in their, thanks for voicing your frustrations, now call Nikon and move on. They will, upon request, send you a pre-paid shipping label.

Thanks, Bill, for your reply. Sorry to hear of your inconvenience with your lens. I know first hand how frustrating it is when your equipment isn't operating well.

The great news is I did reach out to the awesome Hogs on a weekend when Nikon was not available to take my call, and those among us were quite able to identify and solve my focus issue. This group is a wonderful resource full of generous and knowledgeable people standing by, ready to help. My sincere thanks and gratitude to each and every one.

The only time I see focus points move around inexplicably is when auto focus is in 3D mode, which is selected when you push in the auto focus mode selector button and rotate the wheel on the front of the camera. When the camera is in that mode the focus points move around in a way that seems random but they don't change from black to red. My 750 hasn't been subject to the recall so I don't know if there was something in the firmware upgrade that changed things but I think that regardless of any changes, improvements, you should be able to select your way out of it. If you can't change it by holding in the auto focus mode selector and rotating the front dial button then something is wrong.

Sathca, you nailed it. I checked and it was set to 3D!!!!! Here I thought I "know this camera like the back of my hand," but I've never used 3D so I didn't know what I didn't know! Thank you so much! You and one other awesome hog have just made my day! That's why this forum is so awesome.
