I get to Bear River early to ensure good light. My favorite use of the light is the view of the platform at the beginning of the 12-mile auto route around the main marsh area. As the sun comes up, the shadow/light interaction is very appealing to me.

The first four shots in this set show the effect of the rising sun. The fifth shot was included because the contrail of an overhead airplane showed in the water reflection. The last two shots were landscapes that, for some reason, I could not upload with the rest that I posted yesterday.

Comments and suggestions are welcome.

Mike,
#6, that grass/wetland with montaigne bg is abso-damn-loot-ly, incredibly magnificent!
Really glad you posted it, even if only an afterthought!
Makes me wish I could afford to build a house with a wall that would accommodate that image.

For those able to parallel gaze a 3D image pair, here is testimony that RG’s image is an estimable candidate for 3D imagery!

Best regards,

For a number of years now R.G. Frank and myself have been moderating this section. Having three moderators really helped us out because we could bounce ideas off each other before implementing them. Frank, it seems, has become much less active in the section in the last year or so. Recently a discussion centered around offering Jim-Pops the position of moderator. Mainly R.G. and I decided that he would be a good choice because I need some help with the MIYV challenge each week. It is pretty big chore to post the edits , and keep track of the voting each week. Jim-Pops will be taking over that job from me starting next week. I will still be around and still be a moderator. Then, when Jim-Pops needs a break, I can go back to running the challenge for a while, or R.G. can jump in and give us a break. So, for you the members, nothing is going to change. The section will continue to run as it has; but there will be a new face behind the scenes.

You will have noticed that I did not post an October "The master in You" topic. I think that was a pretty good idea and I'm glad that we experimented with it; but, as it was, it seemed a bit ponderous. With just one thread Going many directions it was hard to tell who was commenting on what. We can resume that in November if the members want it back, or we can try something new. If you have any ideas, please PM those ideas to one of the moderators. Thank you for your continued support of FYC.

Erich,
I’m glad to see that Moderator is not a totally thankless position!!

Redtail Hawk with Passenger

Technically superb, and an astoundingly unique capture!
My bet is that’s a kingbird soundly and with solid grip giving that juvenile red tail “what for!”

Gotta be bird image of the year!

It’s a dogs life living with a lurcher, they want the entire settee to themselves! Taken at dusk with my iPad, hence rather grainy but a shot I couldn’t resist.

Glad you took the shot!

My wife and I had a full day yesterday. During the day we went and listened to some jazz. And at night we went to see some fireworks. As I set up to take some shots of the fireworks I spotted the sunsetting in the West (to my left) and the moon rising in the east. (to my right). So I decided to do a composite of all three scenes. Along with one onf the shots I took at the concert. All in all it was a really good day. Except for the mosquitos who feasted on me.

Hi, Frank,
I enjoyed your day!
Thanks for posting and narrative!

I took a camera on a recent dog walk because fall is getting serious with falling temperatures and high winds. I wanted to record what I saw on these walks before it was gone.

This set is of the flowers we see on our route next to the lake, a combination of neighbor's efforts and the usual wild growth in this area.

There was a constant wind, so most photos are taking at a higher shutter speed that I usually use for flower shots.

Comments and suggestions are always welcome.

Wonderful series, Mike; thanks for providing the names!
that last shot of “reeds” contains two I know: cat tails and Phragmites.

Working with the "less is more" idea, I liked the way the roads at the right and center of the image, the small house on the left, and the fence in the foreground (for depth) add the only real touches of "civilization" to this scene. The minimalist content of the land seems to complement the immensity of the sky, making for a simple image of a huge scene. Hope you like it, and download is a big plus...!

Oh yeah! That’s a winner!

Hello, I have been doing food photography for almost two years. During lockdown, I watched some videos to learn about lightning and composition, still learning never end ...

I have been posting most of my photos in the foodie food section.

Please critique, there are some learning opportunities here !

Thanks,

Ernesto

Hi, Ernesto,
These seem mainly documentary.
I would be inclined to try a lower perspective and play with macro and different DOFs
