Hello, I have been doing food photography for almost two years. During lockdown, I watched some videos to learn about lightning and composition, still learning never end ...

I have been posting most of my photos in the foodie food section.

Please critique, there are some learning opportunities here !

Thanks,

Ernesto

I prefer the black plate and agree that an increase in DOF is called for. Personally, I find both of these could use more props to make this more inviting. Try adding some utensils, garnish, glasses or cups. JUST MY OPINION!!!

You might be able to get rid of the white spot catching the flash by bouncing your light off the wall or some other reflector. It worked for me on a highly reflective item. I find that catch light distracting.

The black plate works better for me, and I’d like them both better if the entire plate were in focus.

As the others have said - using the black plate and increasing the DOF. I do like the angle from which you shot and the placement of the candies on the plate.

Needs something for scale. Is this 5 'bite size' treats for 1 serving or 5 'family style' servings for everyone at the table?

The colorful candy stands out better on the dark background. DOF could be better.
