When I crop a picture the end result is often soft and "grainy". I have a Sony A3000 with a 20MP sensor. I'm using a 18-55 MM lens. Indoor shots with or without a flash. What am I doing wrong?

If you had selected "Store Original" when you uploaded the pics I would have more than the 102KB and 110KB files to work with . . .
I have attached my Post Process resulting in files of 6.4MB and 6.8MB files after running through Topaz Photo AI (default settings) and using PhotoScapeX "Auto Color" (default settings) for pics (IMO) with larger files, clarity, and much improved overall.
Both of these picture improvements took <1 minute to process.

If the original pic had been shot using RAW and then uploaded to UHH using the "Store Original" setting I may have been able to do much more.

I always use an OP/TECH USA Cross Body Quick Adjust Camera Strap without the logo and rest my hand on the camera while walking.
This strap allows the camera to be brought to my eye in one motion ready to shoot.
It has a cut-resistant cable running through it and I can step through it or place it in my lap while eating and for anti-theft security.
OP/TECH products are a great value for the $ spent, and that makes me . . .

Don't what it is - but it's not the EIFFEL Tower. Looks more like something specifically built for Communications to me.

Whoops, you are right John.
Mr. Google sez it is the Tokyo Tower, a communications and observation tower in the Shiba-koen district of Minato,
Tokyo, Japan, built-in 1958. At 332.9 meters (1,092 ft),
I did have lunch in the Paris France Eiffel Tower Restaurant.
Maybe that second bottle of wine clouded my memory.

I am going for the "Just Past the Blue Hour"

All of the "Heavy Lifting" by Topaz Photo AI (Tiff file) with crop and brightness added W/PhotoScapeX
I cropped to emphasize the Eiffel Tower and show the almost hidden "Eye" to the right of the tower at the skyline.
The smaller buildings around the Eiffel Tower are there to establish scale.
Perhaps the 9 PM nightly light show is just starting?
I hope that this makes you . . .

That hand is definitely a mess! Maybe someone can run this through a processing program. I suspect the hand wasn't intended to be the area of the photo that would catch the reader's eye.

Even Topaz AI can't fix that. . . .

A week or so ago I wrote about acquiring a Rollator-style walker to cope with some balance problems I have. It is an all-terrain model with pneumatic tires. At the time all I had was a product photo from the seller's website.

This post includes some photos of my Rollator in use. The other day I took it out for a full-blown test. I loaded it up with more gear than I would ever take at one time, and then headed out for a two mile wander around a small lake at the local state park. The path varies between gravel and dirt and some grass, and it while it is flat, it is not smooth. The Rollator passed with flying colors.

I purposely over packed the gear in my photo bag for my test run. I packed with a DSLR camera body and 4 lenses and a Sirui travel tripod; a full-sized Benro tripod; and a Sigma 150-500 telephoto lens along with a gimbal mount. In other words, a whole bunch of stuff. Below are some photos that show the Rollator both packed and in action.

I am thrilled with this whole set-up. It will give me more opportunities than I have had in a while. If anyone reading this has some mobility issues, this might be something to explore.

That was my point.
I concur with your recommendation . . .
I was just providing the link to your advice to make it easier for sharisujka to investigate/follow your advice.
I didn't mean to step on any toes.

I use Firefox which uses "DuckDuckGo" for its search engine.
Just another option . . .

There is not a teleconverter made that improves an image, so, there is only one way to go with a teleconverter, and it's not a good thing.
Look, your Z-50 is an aps-c camera, so any ff lens you put on it will automatically get a bump in field of view.
So, put a prime 400 on your camera, and it becomes a field of view of 600 mm WITHOUT a teleconverter.
My suggestion, try the 400 on your Z-50, my most telephoto lens is a 600 prime, I do wildlife professionally, I need nothing more than that for 99% of my work.
800mm entails a lot of expert handling to assure a strong sharp image.
Do us all a favor and put your money into a 400 or 500 prime and do not pass go, and do not purchase a teleconverter.
BETTER SUGGESTION
Buy the Nikon 180-600, this lens will give you a field of view of 270-900mm. You will not ever need anything else for wildlife photography, this lens is much sharper than any Sigma lens on the market in a similiar focal length.
Read the reviews on the Nikon 180-600, they are very good for a lens under 2 grand.
Plus, a zoom is more versatile than a fixed prime.
In the field I use the Sony 200-600 for much of my work, I do have a 600 prime but within a 100 yards, it is really hard to tell the difference between the two.
Below is an image with the 200-600.
If I were you I would consider this lens, the Nikon 180-600 as your go to wildlife lens.
Good luck and keep on shooting until the end.

Thanks Jimmy! I'm holding off upgrading to newest Mac OS because I fear Studio 2 will no longer work

Since you mentioned available light: I took a photo of that children's slide one or two days prior to this one. The morning was flat light, overcast, no shadows. Failure! Thankfully, I went back when was bright, sunny and early (my favorite time of day).

To add to my page 2 comments that address the topic question directly, my #1 inspiration is light, the more dramatic the better!

I really Love your low light and backlit pics.
Topaz Studio 2, v2.3.2 is the latest, but I'm a windoze guy so I don't know how the Apple OS upgrade would work for you.
You said, "To add to my page 2 comments that address the topic question directly, my #1 inspiration is light, the more dramatic the better!" and I am also a huge fan of scenes that test a sensor's dynamic range.
When I go out shooting in the Shenandoah Valley of Va. I mark places with my GPS and make notes of the time of day, the sun's direction, and desired weather conditions to shoot for future reference.
PhotoScape X (free) will allow you to darken/lighten shadows w/o affecting the rest of the pic, plus much more.
