What about sensor size?

Hi SkidooMan,

I place sensor size at the top of the list of things that are important. It's also the primary facet I reference as to why Canon and Nikon need to be innovators instead of competitors.
Look at full frame sensor sales 5 years ago.
50% Canon and 50% Nikon. (Wild guess totaling 100%)
Today, several manufactures like Sony, Leica, and maybe Samsung have entered that arena with full frame P&S models.
Canon and Nikon need to quit watching each other and look behind them. Sony makes 70-80% of the world's camera sensors and their components are found in both Nikon and Canon.
An innovator would not sit quietly for that.
(In my humble opinion)
Great question sir!

I just saw a post in a Facebook photography club where the whole gang was posting Blood Moon shots and a young lady shared an image from a Canon SX50 (hope I got that right). Ten percent of the weight and cost and one hundred percent of the quality. The only image that surpassed it was put up by a professional astrophotographer. If I could share that image I would love to do so. Both Nikon and Canon DSLR users were thoroughly impressed. My biggest fear with P&S cameras is durability. However, it is the P&S industry that's coming out with submersible cameras that have a 5 foot drop resistance guarantee. Say what you will but I wish my DSLR came with that.

Before you go all "hater" on me please appreciate that a long time ago... Painters were hating on cameras
Camera users were hating on movie recorders
Film users were hating on digital
We can discuss the subject and it's NOT an attack on your character or equipment.
Great Day All!

Menkaure is absolutely right to call out Nikon AND Canon on this. These two companies have been slugging it out for box store unit sales for over ten years now and have both made photography a second priority.
The power of cell phones, point-n-shoots, and bridge cameras are catching up and in some cases surpassing quality of DSLR's. Plus their price points are now exhausted as the only DSLR's that can win the battles are over $3000. Lastly, Canon and Nikon haven't introduced ANY new technology while other manufactures have. This is writing on the wall that R&D has been quelled due to shrinking budgets. They've upgraded their image processing software but outside of that have only squeezed in a few more pixels or moved bells and whistles from model to model. Photography-shame on both companies.

Hi Bobilly,
I'm not familiar with the D610 menu but here are two possibities.
1- In the custom settings the AE/AF lock button can be programmed to hold or freeze values after being pressed and released versus the behavior where you have to hold it.
2- D800 and D700 have a locking feature in their menu that will lock the shutter speed and aperture. It was intended for retail portrait studio (Sears or Olan Mills) shooting so settings were consistent and not changed.
Best of luck to you!

It could be cool! Honestly though, don't post your idea in forums. Draw it up and patent it.

Sweet!
I've always wanted a button that randomly changes the brand and model number of my camera like a James Bond license plate. Just for my entertainment factor with those who strive to scope out your equipment before they can say G'day!!

But if it were..... photography would then become an event in the X-games or Red Bull Challenge. If it ain't extreme, it won't go mainstream.

Let's write Nikon, Canon, and Sony and ask for the following warning lamps.
Kid with sticky fingers near camera alert.
Whiney relative that doesn't want picture taken alarm.
Mall guard going to quote 9/11 as reason for no photographs in this area alert.
Spouse found receipt.
New model release alert.
Camera store proximity indicator.
Boss is on your Facebook page warning lamp.

PS, I may have said something really stupid. I addressed Stormygale as "her" without a single fact to backup my assumption of gender.
My apologies in advance if I messed up on that one!!
Sincere Regards,

I sold my D3200 but I thought I remember it demonstrating the sensor cleaning process with little graphic sparkles zipping across the display screen. Just to maybe put the issue to rest, the Nikon D3200 features page calls the light, "#33, memory card access lamp".

Since it's not called "User Termination by Deathray Warning Lamp" I'd like to wish Stormygale many happy photography adventures with her truly wonderful and fun camera.

What they said!! :-)
Plus... Reformat your card after you download each time. My photography teacher gave us a document from SanDisk that recommended doing that to keep cards at peak performance.
(I hope that wasn't redundant)
Good Luck!

Yosemite will present the most photo opportunities without a doubt. However, it will also come with the most tourists. If you elect to go to Donner Lake, continue along I-80 toward Reno. There are a lot of scenic opportunities by the river including trains that meander through the mountains. You may also wish to consider the Pyramid Lake area north of Reno for Milky Way shots. There are a lot of NV state game lands between Reno and Pyramid lake that will allow for desert shots of Milky Way. My last piece of advice might be Lake Tahoe, it's prettier than Donner and also presents a lot of opportunities. I wish you the best of luck in your decision and safe travels!

Lightroom is great for importing, managing, and cataloging your photo library and I use it for that. However, as I continue to learn Photoshop CS6 I am gravitating away from Lightroom 5 for editing. I find it destructive...
Here come the haters to bash me! :-)

Allow me to make one clear example. Sharpening! In LR5 you have an adjustment brush which you can use to apply localized sharpening to a specific area, but you have no control of radius or threshold. Or... You have a details panel where you adjust sharpness and radius, but it applies to the entire photo. So your choices are crummy sharpening or sharpening areas that should not be sharpened such as bokeh. Adjustments for highlights, shadows, saturation, etc suffer the same fate.

I don't wish to sway your opinion, instead I ask you to please try the Adobe Free trial for 30d prior to making a purchase. I suspect you will be amazed with the speed for the first 20d but in the end of your trial you may feel like your hands are tied and your images suffered for it.

Best of luck to you in your endeavors!

It is long overdue that somebody provides a camera review that we can use, not to buy equipment, but instead to laugh with when the subject comes up!
Very Funny!
I'd love to see National Geographic give all their photographers a Barbie Dream Camera and an assignment to fill a monthly issue with pictures taken by nothing but... The most important part of the best camera in the world is 12 inches behind the camera!
Take that Hasselblad!

Would love to have one but I never buy the latest model. I buy the second oldest model and use the savings on lenses and other photography toys.
