This will probably open a giant can of worms so I apologize in advance. How many MP’s are really necessary for the average non-professional person taking pictures? By “average person” I mean someone posting on the internet, looking a photos on a computer or iPad, or cell phone. Maybe blowing up to 16x20 on a rare occasion. There are some really great deals on older cameras with 16 mp as an example. They don’t have all the bells and whistles of the latest and greatest but really, does everyone need 26,30,40 even 40mp’s? Just curious what your knowledgeable folks think. I know everyone has different needs but what do you consider adequate?

Going to Scotland for 17 days in October. As I see it, there are all sorts of photo ops from inside abandoned castles to city scenes to gorgeous landscapes and everything in between. I only want to take one lens on a Sony a6400. If you’ve been to Scotland, what lens would you recommend? Thank you in advance..
Gene

I received over 100 responses and I want to thank everyone who took the time to respond. I’ve read each response several times and while some are a more on topic than others I truly appreciate the feedback. That being said, and taking your responses into consideration, I've decided to borrow a friend’s Sony Rx10iv for the trip. It makes much more sense in that I will have one lens to cover probably all my shooting needs. I’ll get the camera next week and start playing with it. Again…thanks for everyone’s feedback. It was much more than I had ever hoped for and very helpful! Gene

We've had her for about three weeks, she is three months old.
She looks pretty good size in the photos, but she only weighs about six pounds!
I've never really liked small dogs, but we wanted one small enough to be practical in the RV.
She is very smart and has already taught herself to fetch. And she is about 80% house broken with a lot of coaching.
She was a mess psychologically and it has taken her all the three weeks to start to recover from whatever nightmare she was living in before she came to the shelter. She was terrified of me, a little better with my wife but still really cautious around strange men.
I'm really glad that we could make a positive change in her short life! She is a great little dog, and she deserves it!!

Good for you and your wife for rescuing her. As a dog lover with a couple of my own, I can only say the unrequited love you get from these pets is life changing. Enjoy her for many years!

Sorry my friend but I have to disagree. For looks and feel my Sony RX10IV feels quite similar to my DSLRs. My friend’s Canon R5 also feels and looks similar as well. I do notice a change in better photos though. No problem here though. We all get different experiences with newer products. You are of course welcome to your thoughts and opinions.

Dennis

I agree with you. My Rx10 doesn’t feel much different than the D7100 I had prior. And regarding Fuji, I think their retro designs are beautiful! Just MHO…

I'm curious whether any of you Nikon hogs have ever experience (and resolved) a problem with a blue tint abruptly on your images. I was out shooting (Aperture Priority & Raw) Saturday morning, capturing nice images, when suddenly a light blue tint was cast on all my images. Checked my settings but found nothing amiss. It's still happening and I'm scratching my head, even going as far as to Google the problem. Nothing I've read seems to fit. Feedback, please.

It’s probably white balance. I did the same thing on a D7100 in Japan photographing Mt. Fuji from a speeding train. It was a rare clear day and the entire mountain was visible and I didn’t bother checking my settings . It can be corrected in pp. if it makes you feel any better…you’re not alone!

As a broadcaster for 50 years, that drives me nuts. And you hear it from most everybody! But...what does that have to do with photography?

We’ll it is in chit chat so the topic doesn’t have to be directly related to photography. Regarding what Jerry posted,
I’m in complete agreement with he.

Thanks Kevin, but apologies to our OP, optic. I didn't read / understand properly the updated title. I guess the lens has been sold? Typically, the update is SOLD. I misunderstood as the item was back on sale.

You’re not alone! But since you had the same impression I feel I in good company!

In many of the posts when the discussion is mirror vs mirrorless, I see the statement “mirrorless isn’t for everyone”. I’m am probably the antithesis of a professional photographer so I don’t really understand the statement. I see folks on here talking about shooting wildlife, sports, portraits, landscape etc with mirrorless. What are the downsides of mirrorless other than those who have invested in Mirrored systems don’t want to change…which is understandable. I’m not trying to open a can of here…just curious as to what some of you fine folks think. Thanks!
