I'm 76, memory seems to decrease each day. 20 yrs ago I had a camera, either a Pentax Program or Ricoh XRP, had both, don't remember which I used. But it allowed me to place it on a tripod near my birdbath with a 36 exposure roll of film and it would take photos till the roll ended. I could set it at different intervals from 15 seconds to 60 seconds between exposures. Got a lot of good bird photos that way but don't remember the gear I used. Any old time film fanatics out there that might jog my memory? I was a collector and had about 40 cameras, Pentax, Ricoh, Nikon, Mamya 645, Yashicamat 6x6, Rolleiflex, and a host of old rangefinders

I'm 74 and have had quite a few cameras over the years too. I don't know which camera or equipment you may have been using back then. If you have digital cameras you may have one or more that have an intervalometer which will do what you are wanting. If you don't have a camera with one. They sell intervalometers you can use with the camera. I know the Nikon D7100, D7200 and the D500 all have an intervalometer.

I'm old lol, I started in high school back in 1977 work with film and only B&W. I still have all my work. My camera back then was Minolta 101. Then moved to Canon A1. I was a lucky student, my dad was a photographer with a dark room in the garage. I sometimes finish my HS projects at home. I did take up digital photography right way. I'd love to read other members history in photography

I started into photography in late Fall in 1963 when I was 14. I only had a box camera when I started out and I built a darkroom in the basement. I started out in B&W developing my film and printing. At that time I didn't have an enlarger and used a print frame and print box for printing. In 1973 I started processing color film and slides and printing them.

In 1964 my grandfather helped me out by buying my neighbor's photography equipment for me. That gave me a complete darkroom including an enlarger, heated print drum, trays, etc. The equipmemt also included a Graflex Speed Graphic Press camera with the cut sheet film holders and the flash for it. It also included 2 light meters a tripod and an electronic flash.

In 1965 I bought my first 35mm camera, an Argus C3 (the brick). Over time I added more cameras, Rolleiflex and Yashica twin lens reflex cameras, Petri, Mamiya/Sekor 1000 DTL, Asahi Pentax Spotmatic SP2 and another 5 or 6 35mm cameras. I boight my first digital camera in Jan 2002, a Sony Mavica FD73. Later I bought several point and shoots and after I retired I bought a Canon PowerShot SX50 hs, a Nikon D3100, a Nikon D7100 a d then a Nikon D500.

This is an outstanding kit for her to start with. And at a great price.
My daughter has had this exact gear since 2012 (HS graduation gift) and though she is now an MD and can afford more she is content with it. Besides she says as a Pediatric Resident at a major LA county hospital she doesn't really have time for photography now.

Look on Ebay, KEH, MPB, or B&H for a used Canon EOS SL1 with the Canon 18-55mm lens. This camera is very small, light and easy to use as a beginners camera. Because it is an older model, the price should be very reasonable, in the $100-200 range. Good luck!

Thank you, I will definitely check it out.

James, I have a Canon Rebel T2i EOS 550D for sale. It's an older camera so it doesn't have the latest tech but it has more than the basics (you can use it on automatic or learn/use the controls that boost creativity), yields an image that has better resolution than a cell phone, is fairly light to hold, AND it comes with two lenses (the standard 18-55mm and a zoom 75-300).

(But wait; there's more!) It comes with the original box, printed manual, battery and battery charger, lens and body caps.

This is an excellent DSLR starter because it has wide applications. A 15-year-old could experiment and if she takes to DSLR she can upgrade with real experience. If she just doesn't like a camera compared to a phone, the entry cost is definitely manageable.

My Canon is in excellent condition, looks fantastic, operates perfectly and -- did I mention -- it's light to hold.

I recently checked the price for the camera and each of the lenses for used equipment on KEH and they totaled almost $400.

I'm downsizing and am willing to sell the kit and kaboodle for $150 plus shipping.

I've been a member of UHH for over 10 years, have sold and bought on the site a few times with high ratings. If you're interested, PM me.

I have an Olympus e520 (4/3 format) with 2 kit lenses. I bought this about 10 years ago for a trip that was cancelled due to health reasons. It is basically new (about 100 clicks, just to test it out before trip) and comes with strap, extra batteries, UV filter, SD and CD cards). I will let it go for $135 + shipping.

Thanks. I am collecting the info for mom and I will definitely tell her about your offer.

Does anyone have an entry level DSLR with kit lens for sale? It doesn't matter if it is Canon or Nikon. I am looking for my son and daughter-in-law. They want to get a used DSLR for my 15 year old granddaughter.

Our 16 year old granddaughter has requested some kind of digital camera for Christmas, she wants one that is lightweight but still has ISO/aperture/shutter speed controls. It should accept filters but does not necessarily need to support interchangeable lenses, but a step up from iPhone or point-and-shoot cameras. (I think lightweight is a key consideration.)

One that she suggested is the NEZINI 4K digital camera, not a brand I am familiar with.

Any suggestions?

I'm old enough I should know better but a Facebook ad caught my eye, an add-on for Photoshop to enhance landscape images, just $27.00, special price. I received the software online and all the instructions, such as they were, were based on using PS version 21.1 and my last upgrade is version 25.1 Probably no problem if you are software savvy but I'm not. The frustration is my problem, but be warned on what's out there. Yes, I wrote them and posted my complaint on their Facebook page with. of course, no response. No names but you should be able to figure it out on this one.

I'm not sure what the problem is that you are having? Does the add-on software you bought not work? The version of Photoshop, and most other software, that is shown is to let you know the minimum requirement necessary to run the add-on. If you have the minimum or newer you shouldn't have any problem installing and using it.

I tried so hard to take this image to show details in the moon as well as show the foliage and the beautiful dark blue sky, but either the moon was blown out, or the tress were not visible. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I had a similar situation once on a ship's deck, but was able to use the flash to show the ship's details. But there was no way to light up the tees and the golf course.

-----------
Take two shots with the moon exposed properly in one shot and the rest of the scene exposed properly in the second shot. Then just combine the two to get what you are looking for. Like an HDR picture.

I just started, yesterday, experimenting with flash for wildlife (bird) photography. Lots of cool new stuff to learn.
I'm sorry I didn't do this sooner the results are, IMO, Outstanding.

Based on what I have read and watched I will be working the flash, most of the time, in Manual- High Speed Sync Mode.
The purpose of the flash in this use case is for a fit of fill as well as to give the birds colors and feather pat e runs a bit of a bump.
(I would post a sample of a couple of my first experiments but that would cause this post to be moved to the Bird Sub-caragoty and I'm really looking for some guidance vs sharing an image)

I'm shooting a Canon 7d mk2 in manual with a Canon EX58011 flash as mentioned above set to Manual-HSS.
I'm controlling flash output and flash zoom manually.

For those who might ask why Manual-HSS. For me- at this point in time- I shoot fully manual with shutters speeds well above the max 1/250 sec sync speed. I may give E-ttr a try but for now aim staying fully manual.

This afternoon as the light was fading I needed increase my camera exposure for the background and subject while reducing the flash power. This requires me to adjust the exposure on my camera and change the flash output on the flash head itself.
It is my understanding that in some cases a Canon EOS and a Canon Flash will work togeather enough so that the flash adjustments can be made through the camera body controls. (So there is no reason to physicly touch the flash head)
I have been through the 7d11 and 580ex11 manuals and I don't understand how to make this level of of control work.

Before I go back and pick the manuals apart again I want to ask the UHH members IF the 7d11 and 580ex11 will work together to allow me to control the manual flash adjustments through my camera body controls.

Are you shooting with on-camera flash or with off-camera flash? With your camera and flash both in manual, once you have your initial setup you should not need to change anything except your shutter speed to correct for your background changing. If you change your aperture or ISO then you would need to modify your flash power to compensate. As long as your flash to subject distance doesn't change your flash should be good.
