I'm old enough I should know better but a Facebook ad caught my eye, an add-on for Photoshop to enhance landscape images, just $27.00, special price. I received the software online and all the instructions, such as they were, were based on using PS version 21.1 and my last upgrade is version 25.1 Probably no problem if you are software savvy but I'm not. The frustration is my problem, but be warned on what's out there. Yes, I wrote them and posted my complaint on their Facebook page with. of course, no response. No names but you should be able to figure it out on this one.

What's the name of the add-on?
A photographer and their money are easily parted.

I do not understand why you would be having a problem with software designed to work with an earlier version of PS than the one you are using. I have never seen a plug-in or App that is not backward compatible.

For me, that life lesson is “be very wary” purchasing anything through a FB vendor. Learned that lesson a few years ago. When I see an ad that catches my eye, I immediately look for another source somewhere. Often, a telling experience.

It appears that it is a forward compatibility matter.

I'm not sure what the problem is that you are having? Does the add-on software you bought not work? The version of Photoshop, and most other software, that is shown is to let you know the minimum requirement necessary to run the add-on. If you have the minimum or newer you shouldn't have any problem installing and using it.
Have you actually tried using the plug in? Have you determined that it does not work?
New versions of Photoshop add features but are generally quite similar in use. TRY IT.
I may work fine, or not fine, but I'll bet it doesn't do anything that you could not do in Photoshop.
If you want one click presets there are lots of applications that offer those, but if that is what you want, you probably shouldn't be using Photoshop, because for all it's power it comes with a steep learning curve.
There are many other applications that are geared toward ease of use.
I hear your frustration, and photography should be enjoyable. Every OS comes with a free Photo app, if all you need is basic editing TRY one of those. They work. If you want something a bit more powerful there are lots of those too. It might help if before buying, you read reviews from credible sources. Look, you made an impulse purchase from Facebook (most of us have made more than one impulse purchases in our lives, so I am not trying to be negatively judgmental) But asking yourself "what is the likelihood that a $27 plug in from Facebook is going to do something Photoshop can't?
I think the real problem (from what little specific information you have given) is that you find Photoshop's Learning curve daunting and were looking for a way to make it easier. There is nothing wrong with that except that Photoshop is not the right application for a casual photographer who wants ease of use.
You need software that makes it easy to enjoy photography at the level at which you choose to use it.
Good Luck
