I have a Nikon D3300, please explain "High Speed Sync", what ir is, and what purpose does it fulfill in my Photography. I am a beginner of about One year.

HSS allows greater flexibility for using light during fast shutter speeds, regardless of ambient lighting or for portraiture outdoors. These two images were shot using HSS, one at 1/6400 to create the dark background and the other at 1/8000 to freeze motion. Because the flash is actually sending out hundreds of pulses during the exposure to ensure the entire sensor receives light, the power is significantly reduced and the subject to flash distance has to be very small (inches in the case of the hummingbird).

Just bought a new camera and they sold me the Sony XQD G Series card very fast they said, however they forgot to mention that they and none Of the stores ive looked at, brick and morter, and online have the card reader. And no one seems to know when they will be available. Are these cards that new that no one has thought to create a reader for every card sold, as I imaginge everyone would like to see whats on their card. just venting and pissed because I can not view my photos taken with my new camera to see what they look like and how they compare to what I used to shoot and view.

What camera do you have? My D500 came with a cable to connect to my laptop to download photos. Cheaper than a card reader and right out of the box.

I hope someone is willing to shed a pit of light on the direction I should take....

I did a quick look at Adorama's used department, and for your budget they have available now a Nikon D7200, a Sigma 17-50 2.8 and a Tamron 70-200 2.8 G1--all in excellent condition and right around $2K total. I happen to own each of these pieces of equipment so I know they work very well and would cover most of what you would want to do on a trip.

I saw these on your D850 review, Steve. Beautiful! And thanks for a great review.

Lens shade is not installed correctly?

I have that lens. The lens hood is integral to the lens (can't remove it)

Great story! As they say on Antiques Roadshow, the provenance adds to the value of the piece.

Very nice! The second image and explanation help with the first image. My initial impression was that there was algae on the surface, as is so common around here. Pretty either way.

After I explain where I want exposure measured, how to set ISO for the ss and aperture I want, and then how to back button focus, I usually get an unusable picture. But, it's fun trying. Actually had someone who knew exactly what I was doing--a pleasant surprise.

Awesome! I like the one lumbering toward you . . . at a distance, I hope.

Great shots jkatpc, really like #3 and #4.

Thanks! I took nearly 900 pictures to get maybe 15 halfway decent ones. I still have a lot to learn with this long lens.

Very cool! Be careful, though. Some of them have venomous spines.
