If you live in an area where power occasionally goes out, a generator can be a lifesaver, literally. I was emailing a friend who lives a couple of hours south, and she's hoping the power doesn't go out because she won't be able to use her generator until it stops snowing.

The manual says not to use it in snow or rain. I've had mine out in all kinds of weather, although I did make a little shed on wheels, mainly to cut down on the noise.

So, do any of you have your generators out in the rain and snow?

Yes I've run my Stanley All weather commercial 8kw generator in rain and snow. It works just fine, you should follow the makers directions not all are the same. I built a small shed for mine last year and one side removes for operation. BTW always drain the gas from the carburetor when you are finished using it to stop it clogging the jets.

I'm pressed to remember all of the command procedures for one bridge and one P&S of the same brand cameras. How in the world do you manage to remember what to do for that many cameras?

My daytime job now is systems programmer (attention to detail) I've done many things from clock repair (I can dissemble a clock clean it and remember where all the parts went)to electronics design, computers and a little professional photography. I used to process my own film and prints colour and black&white. Learning new things is yet another of my occupations. I've spent my life learning new things it's almost second nature to me. My main memory problem is peoples names I remember the paces but putting a name to them that's somehthing else. My latest camera I'm just learning it's quite magic, the lumix dmc z40 is my new pocket camera it's like a pocket bridge camera zoom equ 25-800 mm evf and screen, also does panarama's too. Quite delitghtful.

I thought with all the Nikon vs canon vs "???????"
It would be fun to chime in and let us know what camera you use.

This is not a thread for arguing about what is better or throwing stones! not what lens you use, just what Brand camera you use....{you don't even have to say what model camera it is, unless you want to}

2 Nikon's for me
1 Olympus P&S

Three canon FD film cameras, two Olympus omd em5's, one Lumix G3, G10 and one lumix Z40. When the Olympus omd em5 II comes out I may buy one. I don't use the film much the local processing places seem to like scratching film.

I rather like the way you put it, very professional.

I agree, one morning while shaving I noticed this old man looking at me from the mirror and for a moment that startled me until the message sank in.

I had a similar problem except in the mornings I noticed that although getting older I didn't look bad for my age. The thing that spooks me is later in the day when I walk past a mirror is to see the reflection of some strange guy stalking me. Gives me the heebigeebies.

Panosonic Lumix DSC ZS40
After I posted in the forum late last week about getting a 'street camera' with a view finder, I decided to buy this one. It came yesterday and so far I am quite impressed with it.
What's funny is my NIKON 3100 is easier to use. Well that's because I have been practicing with it longer. The ZS40 has so many options to learn it may take awhile. But again, so far I like it. Fits nice in the pocket.

Yes a nice camera I normally shoot OMD em5 but wanted something to drop into my pocket and this is great. I normally start Christmas shopping by buying myself somethig to get me in the right mood and this was it. I agrre too many features but superzoom range and the ability to shoot panoramas. A truely amazing camera. good luck whith yours, I know it's going to keep me busy learning all about it.

Keep your body and invest in better glass. The T4i will have no problem recording an image that will look great at that print size.

I go with this suggestion get better glass after all you have 18megapixel with the T4i to get any noticeable improvment there you would have to double the pixel count if not quadruble it. That puts you into the medium format envrironment and you'll need deep pockets. For sure that equipment is good enough for the best of us, I know it's too rich for me.

Personally I would probably stick with Nikon. Not because the others are not good as well -- but because he can keep the lenses he already has. Why start off all new, when you can just up the body and keep all those wonderful Nikors?

I'm with you Apiture, I had Canon FD film system, lots of gear. I Canon had of offered an upgrade route where I could have taken my lenses I would still be shooting Canon, however they didn't have the forsight and now I shoot Olympus and can still use some of my Canon lenes. It makes little sense to sideline equipment that has served you well unless it is for much superior models. Good luck.

Zeiss Planar 80mm 2.8 on a Roliflex f Wish now I hadn't parted with that camera but a six x six didn't fit in with my 35mm kit.

Oh well.

I forgot I had for a short time a Zorki 4 it had a wonderfully sharp 50mm f2 lens, gave that away to concentrate on Canon who later let me down when they dumped the FD lens system.

Can't say I've had anything as bitingly sharp even in the most modern of leses.

In your opinion, what is the sharpest lens that you have ever tried? Regardless if it is prime or telephoto.

I have used the Canoscan9900F for scanning slides and photos. Now the light fails to come on when activated. I have reinstalled the drivers to no avail. I find no one on line that will repair. Any thoughts? If I buy a new scanner, any suggestions? Thanks

I had a similar problem with an epsom V500just couldn't get it to work. Thought it was junk, then for some reason I installed the whole package of controler and drivers and it sprang into life.

Good luck.

This whole thread reminded me that I had a filter jamend on a 14mm micro4/3 I bought. Just got it off by wrapping a rubber band around the filter and the extra grip got it off. Thanks I've been meaning to get around to doing that.

I have a 500mm mirror canon FD mount from my film kit that I have used with both Panasonic G3 and Olympus OMD 5. I used aperture priority on both gives the same angle of view as 1000mm on FF. It's a great lens and easy to use on the Olympus just mount it and set to A and start shooting the G3 is more difficult you have to set it to have "No lens" and the set the exposure to A. You would think Panasonic could have been as smart as Olympus, if you can't read the lens there is "No lens" in effect. Maybe your Nikon suffers a from similar problem.

I guess I'm not a professional at anything because I've never had my income 100% from anything I've done. Among many other things I still take photographs.

All you have to do is sell a picture (or maybe more pictures) and you are now a professional.

I forgot to say being a professional only means you make money at it not that you are necessarily a good photographer.
