I'm betting it's not white balance as much as not 'shooting to the right," or overexposing the snow scene.
Rexene: Get a copy of "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson. This will help you with the ISO/Shutter Speed/Aperture settings.
I like your compositions and balance, you just need to get to the manual mode, eventually. If you have an editor, I'd try to get rid of the wires in number three.
Thanks, Snowbear! I received this book for Christmas; just haven't had time to sit down and read it yet! No wires in photo #3, but the lines are in every shot of the sunset!

I would suggest check your white balance setting. Even on automatic it should not have a blue tint. The subjects in the first two are not really the best to work on depth of field with as nether have much except the first which has a very bland sky. The third has some nice colors but I'm curious as to the lines - all power lines. or something else going on?
Every picture I took of the sunset has those lines, which there are no power lines existing in that location. I even moved over because there was a jet stream line further to the right, so there wasn't anything in the actual shot to cause those. I was puzzled by them also!! I had the White Balance set on cloudy. What would you recommend? I know the subjects weren't the best, just practicing manual mode! >:)
F stop, exposure, ISO, etc. are still confusing for me. I always used Auto on my previous Nikon D90 and want to broaden my skills. First 2 photos were taken this morning, about 8:30, of the snow we got in the last 24 hours in mid-Michigan. Third photo January sunset in mid-Michigan. I have a Nikon D7000 now, lens used is a Nikon DX 55-200 mm 1:4-5.6G ED VR. Please let me know how I am doing.
f4.2, 1/40 sec, ISO 100 62 mm (Nikon 55-200 DX 4-5.6GED VR)
f13, 1/10 sec, ISO 100, 80 mm (same lens as above)
f6.3, 1/125 sec, ISO 2500 (same lens)
I think all three are adorable.
I like No. 2, but 4 is nice also. I like these two because there isn't any background distraction.
Love your second shot. It almost looks like a Passion flower.
Great shots! I do agility with my Boston Terrier, Max. We haven't competed in a match yet, but have enjoyed the classes we have taken!

I'm in the market for a new printer. I would like one that prints, copies, scans and prints good quality pictures. However, I do not want to spend hundreds of dollars! Any recommendations?
Thanks everyone for your input. I purchased an HP Photosmart 7510, which does everything I want it to do and it is also an eprinter and wireless. It was on sale at Best Buy for $149.00; $50.00 off. I haven't opened it yet because I decided I wanted to see what other people had to say. I don't expect to print all of my photos on this printer or anything larger than 8 x 10. My photography is just one of my hobbies. I will check out the suggestions so far before I opened the box!

The first pic is the original, the second is the edited version. What do you think? Would you have edited it differently?
This is just a fast job..... Here it is in B&W too.... Mike
I like both of these edits!

Canon Pixma is surprisingly good. I haven't had it for a long period of time. but the 8 x 10's are really good.
Thanks, Deb. What model number do you have?

Love your photos. I believe the color in the water is iron. I have to agree with Mister Wilson regarding the second shot. I prefer the more natural look of the water, as in your first photo.
I like the photo cropped. I'm new to Elements 10 also. You could make a copy of the original and add a layer to use the cloning brush and get rid of the house and car in the background and replace with more tree background. I'm probably not explaining this very well, since I am so new to the program!
Hi, I am fairly new to this forum. I have taken pictures for years but always used "Auto" mode. I recently took a photography class (only 3 hrs.) and am trying to moved from "Auto" mode to "Manual". I get very confused at times! The attached photo was taken at the "Photo Shoot" after the class. I knew this particular photo was overexposed and thought it would be a good one to work on in Photoshop Elements 10 (also new for me). I don't know if I over did it or not! What do you think?
