I'm in the market for a new printer. I would like one that prints, copies, scans and prints good quality pictures. However, I do not want to spend hundreds of dollars! Any recommendations?

Canon Pixma is surprisingly good. I haven't had it for a long period of time. but the 8 x 10's are really good.

Thanks, Deb. What model number do you have?

Like most things in photography, the devil is in the details. Just how "Good" is "Good"? To get the best quality prints, you will need a quality dedicated photo printer with probably 6 to 10 inks. You also need to calibrate your monitor and ideally your printer. You can get pretty good quality with some of the all in one printers, but try to see sample prints made from each one. Also, be sure that all the colors are in separate cartridge, so you don't have to throw away a cartridge because one color has run out. Also check out the size of the cartridges, the larger cartridges will have a lower post per print. If you are going to be doing a lot of photo printing, you will probably find it best to stick with the Mafgs. cartridges rather than going for generic ink.

Right on Tommy! I'm leery of all-in-one machines for this simple reason. The internals of the different functions share certain key bits of hardware and software, and when one function craps out, it can take the other functions with it.

I don't need fax, my separate scanner, printer and computer together make a very nice copier. If my scanner goes south, I only have to replace the scanner, the printer and computer still work; ditto for printer. I would recommend a separate 8 1/2 x 11 printer optimized for photos, because it will still print other stuff.

Hi. I had about the same need [except had no photography print requirement], did my homework and bought a HP Officejet wireless 4500 from Costco on sale for $79. It does photography printing so, for the heck of it, I bought a package of their 4x6" photo paper.

Soon after I brought up a 'tack sharp, perfectly exposed' drake mallard duck in flight - a simple but fine image - and printed a 4x6" not expecting much at all for results. What came out of that printer blew me away! I looked once, I looked twice and then took it outside to look at it under the sun. Unbelievable. I couldn't be happier. SkipM

You will think this is crazy, but I use and love the HP Photosmart 110. I purchased it for about $ 125.00 from Office Depoe. The ink is less expensive than most and you get more pictures from this ink. I only use HP Advance Photo Paper for my printing. I hope this help you to decide. Jacquie

I forgot to add, it also scans, it does everything you need it to do.

I bought an all-in-one HP Photosmart C8180 and it proved to be everything that I wanted. I don't print larger than letter size and get marvelous prints from this printer.

Thanks everyone for your input. I purchased an HP Photosmart 7510, which does everything I want it to do and it is also an eprinter and wireless. It was on sale at Best Buy for $149.00; $50.00 off. I haven't opened it yet because I decided I wanted to see what other people had to say. I don't expect to print all of my photos on this printer or anything larger than 8 x 10. My photography is just one of my hobbies. I will check out the suggestions so far before I opened the box!
