So, our kids have more choices; and in many, many way things are better for them. What is wrong with that?
I do hope our Grandkids have even more choices.

What is wrong with that?

A while back I saw something on the needs and wants of children. It stated that you should give your child only 25% of what they want.

It is to instill that everything in life is not necessarily to be given to them just because they want it. They might be the center of your world but once away (in the real working world) from you the hard reality is they are not the center of the universe. Time and again those who inherit wealth have no regard for what it took to develop it.

If given everything to them, it seems to develop shortness of duration of amusement of the item and as more is given the less it has value to them.

It also helps to set boundaries. If they really want it, not giving it to them allows them to work for it, that develops character that will last them a lifetime. Appreciating and valuing of how an item is gotten.

I can see why he would not like it because they are his own words and not to be forgotten. Besides it is not my therapy it is his. Maybe he will be a little better at what the says.

I know they were turned in and admin would have pulled the post if they were false, problem is they are his own words in his own posts! So I am just repeating what he stated -WHAT IS WRONG WITH AGREEING WITH HIM!

No worries. There are so many variations to a shooting scenario - Dennis pointed that out too. There's a lot to it and we can't make more laws and cross our fingers that there will be fewer shootings. We have to be proactive. One way is training. Train the teachers. Train them under stress so they can direct children under stress. Gone are the good old days...probably forever when we didn't have to think about these things.

What we really need to do is get hold of the mental health issue. You can arm as many teachers, have as much training as available as one can but yet as long as the basic problem exists the problem will remain. You wouldn't need armed teachers if the mental problem was handled right. Probably 95% of these shooters were known long before their dastardly deed but yet was released upon society.

I am all for reasonable background checks but people will always fall through the cracks. No one imagined Ted Bundy could be a k**ler but look what he did.

Getting out of dodge rather than huddling together and waiting for a shooter to come to you is common sense. I wonder how many lives may have been saved if they had been instructed what to do in an emergency - the teacher as well.

Getting out of Dodge? How many times have you seen news of people getting out of Dodge and it created a major problem like trampling others to death. So many trying to get out of a doorway or down restrictive halls that it is nearly impossible to move because of the panic and mass of people.

The perp is already in the hallway, maybe not yours at that time but with the yelling and screaming he soon will be!

How about throwing chairs through the windows and jumping out? What of the broken glass - how many will be cut up severely not only from the window frame but the landing zone? What about 2nd and 3rd story jumps?

Old saying out of sight out of mind. If the perp doesn't see you, your out of danger per say. Most schools do not have paper thin walls or doors. Remaining in place is good advice. Just get the door secured and there are several ways to do it. Like being lost in the woods first thing to do is absolutely nothing. You sit down and relax for a while to get the panic out of your system. Clear heads get you through situations.

This is not beating you up and I don't want you to take it that way!

Here in Florida entire counties now have armed deputies in all public schools. But that didn't help at Parkland. "Protecting the kids" also means rational gun control. Most Americans - even most NRA members - want universal background checks. That is a simple start. Why it should be easier and take less responsible behavior to own a firearm than to own a car does not make much sense.

Your Quote:""Protecting the kids" also means rational gun control. Most Americans - even most NRA members - want universal background checks." Can't have rational universal background checks without complete background checks including all mental documentation.

Would you not agree that those who do the shooting, have mental problems? Yet those documents are hidden behind doctor - patient privilege. And even ones that are well known to have mental problems because of prior interaction with the police and other places (like schools), nothing is done to protect society from them.

It is odd that all the laws on gun restrictions are against the law abiding citizens and not criminals and the mentally afflicted. At least not being enforced as they are written. Only want to add new ones that will not take care of the problem. Criminals and mentally ill.

When I look at how accessible campuses were when I was in school, I have to believe the primary problem isn't on campus. I have to believe there are societal fixes. At the same time I'm in favor of any on campus fixes that might mitigate the problem, as long as unintended consequences are considered when making changes. Kids going to school aren't going to want to feel they are in a fort or a prison.

A fort or prison is a better feeling than being on a rifle range. Besides, they already feel they are in a fort or prison. The brick walls, hall monitors, being defined as to be where and when. Having to listen to jailers (teachers). etc.

The reason a fetus can't carry a firearm for protection is that NYS is they has very restrictive gun rules. They don't want doctors being shot while performing a******ns!
