Purchased my first camera at the PX in Yokohama, Japan while on leave from an amphibious operation with the 1st battalion, 4th Marines in the South China Sea as a Navy Corpsman. The camera was a 35mm Kowa that I still have in my possession today. It took great pictures and causes me to pause and reflect on the great experiences we shared since 1963.

Ahhh you were very smart, you spent your money on a camera, I spent mine on WOMEN and BOOZE. I also went to Yokohama on R&R for 3 or 5 days, I was with Delta co 1/4 from May 7th 1965 to December 24th, 1965 and with Delta Co. 1/3 from December 24th until april 20, 1966. We may have crossed paths.

I'm just curious. I bought my first cameras in Vietnam because you could get them cheap at the PXs there. I learned to use the darkroom at Special Services in Qui Nhon. I got hooked and have been ever since.

It appears that a lot of us are of a certain (ahem) age, and from some of the comments I've seen on various threads, I have a feeling that quite a few of us started out in Vietnam. Personally, photography and my USAA membership are the two best things I got from military service :) :)

I took a Manolta 16, with me when we made the original landing in Chulai Viet-Nam, May 7th 1965 with the 4th Marines Delta Co. 1/4 3rd Marine Division. Even though I was a Grunt, I carried that little camera everywhere I went. I was 18 yrs old.

I have been a loyal Canon owner with a T3i, 50mm,10-22, 70-300, 15-85(canon lens) and a 18-270 Tamron lens. I have been thinking about upgrading my camera but after reading many blog comments and snapsort reviews of the D7100 - I am confused. I don't want to start the whole canon vs Nikon debate, however all reviews say that the image quality on the Nikon blows away the canon. Snapsort rates the Nikon at 85 and the canon at 65. If anyone has had either or both of these cameras - is there really that much difference in image quality between these two camera? Any help is appreciated.

Put 2 SD cards in you pocket, go to the nearest Camera store and go to the Nikon counter and ask to see the D7100 and install your card into camera and take about 10 to 20 shots and remove your card, and then go to the Canon Counter and ask for the 70D and do the same with your other card, then remove it and go home and check out the pictures on your computer, and compare....

Yes, I suppose it looks like the hummer "squirted", but birds don't urinate. It's all in one blob.

The peanut feeder is from our local Ace Hardware. You can find them on line other places, it's Songbird Essentials Peanut Wreath. You can also make one out of a slinky.
The squirrels can't get to it easily if it's far enough from a tree. We have it hanging on a pole in the yard. Raccoons have somehow gotten to it and depleted it at times. Maybe they stand on each others shoulders. :-D

Since I put up 3 feeders on my front porch, I have spent hrs watching and taking pictures of them, and it don't rain in Los Angeles, at least not lately. And I have seen some drop a few Bombs, but most of the time I have seen them spray or squirt. Most of the time when they are chasing or being chased. Sometimes just Hovering. They do spray.

I was driving past a local cruise in, when I spotted this Chevy. It stood out and I returned to see if it was as pristine as it looked from the road. It was and more. Maybe the best 60 Chevy that I've seen in quite a few years. I was 20 years old when this appeared on the street, a close friend had one, 335 engine, 4 speed, the works. It brought back memories!! A friend took thousands of super bird photos with her P510; wore it out, so it was onto the 600 :)

I thought about the P600, but this seems to be working great. So I guess I will holdout until it starts to act up..

thanks for looking.
