That only helps to open any file of that kind in PS. The default in Mac on one click is to be openend by the Mac program Preview. I think the question is, what program will open and transfer the files from the camera or SD card to the PC? Right?

The action detailed has nothing to do with PS. It instructs the Mac as to which program should open the image. It should be done at the desktop level, NOT while in PS.

Try this
Select an image, click Command I (get info) you will see an info dialogue box and it has a place to specify what program opens it. Under that there should be a box to check which is something like "Use the same program for all similar images". Completing that should reassign the opening program.

Perhaps 15 years ago, I captured a "newsy" shot that the local newspapers missed. offered it to the paper (wanted to see it in print!)for their use. The editor liked it, ran it and called to see if I would like to freelance for them. That response changed my outlook and now, 15 years later I am retiring from my "real" job and will devote more time to photography, both personal and continuing a fairly successful news and event business. A little encouragement and recognition can go a long way!! grreat to hear these positive stories!

My monopod technique is to use my legs and the mpod to form a sort of tripod I adjust the head, or more likely reposition my feet to insure a level platform, but the three legged stance is much easier to stabilized than a straight vertical post. Works for me, probably not for all.

I have been watching this product. It is advertised to use your iPhone/droid to trigger your camera with a number of different stimulus. Noise, light, motion, time lapse etc. The app is free the only cost is the "dongle" to connect to your camera $29.95. If I end up getting one, I'll post comments.

"e=craggycrossers]Hi - funny thing here .... I have never even thought about a lens as a "walk around". I started with a D80 body and, after some research, bought the 18-70, which was a great lens. After a little experience and much reading I concluded that, for my own purposes, all I needed was a slightly better camera (D300), and two lenses, something in the "wide -to - "normal" focal range and a 70-200, and as good quality as I could find given the depth of my pockets. As I have said earlier in this thread I did my own analysis, read what Thom Hogan (whose opinions I like and respect) suggested as a good DX lens and settled on this lens - http://bythom.com/Sigma17-50mm_lens_review.htm - I bought it on eBay UK from a lady pro photographer (bit of hard negotiating involved !), and absolutely love it. It suits me. I have this Sigma - http://www.photozone.de/Reviews/325-sigma-af-70-200mm-f28-ex-hsm-apo-dg-macro-nikon-review--test-report - again bought on eBay from a nice old gent with "wobbly" hands ! It's as sharp as the smaller Sigma. Two lenses to get me from 17-200. As I said, a little experience, a proper assessment of my personal wants and needs, and a sound and determined search to find good lenses without breaking the bank ! It's not difficult if you do it right !

A man who knows what he wants and what he needs within his price range.
Perfect!
Some here would have us all believe that you are a ning-nong and a ding-a-ling, that you will never amount to anything unless you pretend to be big-time walking around with one prime lens and setting your camera to manual.
A lot of us just want to enjoy photography as a hobby and often just like to carry a reasonably descent camera/lens combo to capture photo opportunities as they arise with reasonable quality.
We don't all want to walk around with bulging pockets looking like a counterfeit watch seller on the beach at Phuket."[/quote]
After one kit lens, my budget and needs led me to those same two lenses! I got years of service from the, and still use the on occaission. I think the ffirst part of any major purchase is to determine your needs, then try to find an economical solution. It is difficult sometimes to separate needs and wants, though!

I think it came from those who have made the move from p&s to dslr. They want to be able to get reasonably good shots as they travel about, but will never want to enlarge them to poster size, won't look too critically at an 8X10. From the first Brownie to the latest Canon P+S, they are familiar and happy with one lens that gets most of the shots that they want.
If I am walking the city or countryside, I often have a 18-200, knowing I can get most of the shots I would want.If I had specific targets, I might have two cameras with the lenses that Would do the job.

I purchased a small, well padded diaper bag at KidsRUs, just big enough for the camera with a walk around lens and a speedlight. Small, inexpensive, unobtrusive, does not shout "camera" and I have not heard that many thieves are targeting diaper bags. I often use when headed to the city for casual street shooting

Finally upgraded my aging slider phone to an Iphone 4 about a month ago. (having many problems with the darn thing and the salesman is upgrading me to a 5 as an apology).

Of course, I got instagram. Not being enough I also got Snapseed, Camera+ and about 7 other photo apps.

I haven't touched my D3000 in about 3 weeks, though I do plan to take it out tomorrow in an attempt to get something for a portrait photography contest that ends in April.

Man, I always laughed at Ipad/Iphone photographers but now I'm hooked.

It's called Apple. :-)

I'm with the Captain on this one. Most who try it like it, but it is not for everyone.

In camera processing (noise reduction, etc) will slow it. If you are able to manually focus and eliminate autofocus (not always possible) you will likely find a little bump.

On my D70 the DOF preview has never worked. I meant to do something about it, but never did. I read somewhere that there is a general fault with it. Is this wrong?

My daughter and I had four D70 between us, never had a problem. I don't know how much she would have used it, I did on both of mine.

Being a film camera guy, and not yet shopping for a DSLR I have a basic question. In using my Pentax MX (all manual) I relied heavily on being able to use depth-of-field preview to get the shot I wanted. Do digital SLR's have this capability?

All of my Nikons have had this capability from D70 through D800.

Hi guys had the D800 now for four weeks - all good but will be learning for some time yet. Can only praise this instrument but and there's always a but, I'm knit picking - the cameras straps that nikon supply with their beaut products is a joke, or is it just me?
I have been a canon man all my life, with no probs with their straps as they are a tad wider, so they sit better on this old frame of mine, will try and customise my canon strap to fit the D800.

I don't even unpack the Nikon Strap, using Op-Tech, Calumet. I also use a Cotton Carrier harness which permits carrying the fairly heavy D800 with the weight distributed on your upper body and with no swinging or banging around.
Surprisingly, I have sold all of my Nikon straps on Ebay!
