I am afraid today there is . Spent most of my morning dealing with imbeciles, been up since early equipment broken, still mothing achieved. Client wanted building work finished. Also doing timelapse of the build, tripod also gone missing, then get insulting comments from some jerk who can't even be bothered to offer anything helpful , just insults. What i wrote is far tamer than he would have received in person.

Nothing useful to say, them say nothing .
Just stopped for lunch and half a day wasted due to other people

In a bad mood this morning due other things been up since 0530 now gind someone has borrowed some my laser building level.. And then brought it back broken.
Have you actually read my first post about it being a first experimental shoot, having no time to set it up for action.
Do you actually know anything about the 5 D 3 focus system? If yes, then how about some helpful comments,
If not then I don't need dumb ass commentd like that. Thought people on this forum where a bit more mature and above shit like you just posted.

So fuck off

Just checked image info now.

I had ISO set at 3200, wide open at f2.8 in AV, that was giving shutter speeds, at best 250, down to 125th. The cyclists were coming out of a corner at the top of a short climb, so speeds were not excessive, but accelerating , down a slope towards the finish.

With AF Point Display Enabled on playback, it is easy to see the problem

As you say, the jerseys contrast always captures the focus points.

Hi guys, thanks

Yes Bourenmouth crit.

I was guessing it may have been having multi point focus selected, but with only 5 laps left of the last race did not get much of a chance to even get in to a good position.

I tried the BBF method a while back and did not get on with it. Far far too many shots where I would forget to press the bloody button.
I'd now rather use the back button set to STOP AF. So I can lock focus and hold the rear button in.

Had forgotten about the setting to Fire once focus locked, seem to remember I have it on mid point at moment.

I guess since the jerseys can easily 'capture' focus, moving the focus up a bit off centre would help to.

Any suggestions on the AF tracking/ focus lock sensitivies settings? from AF1 page?

I live in Jersey, and we only have the one town crit every year so I won 't be able to try these ideas out again till next year.

I got late to a hotel last night...2000hrs or so..and there was a cycle race on in the town centre, right outside front door of the hotel..so i went out with 70-200 2.8 and tried to get a few shots..as much as an experiment with the camera as anything.

Was pretty much in front of the cyclists as they came out of a corner and were coming straight at me.

Could nto really come up with settings that would get many in focus shots.

I had AF points set to the full 61 point...so maybe that was the issue.

Tried various of the AF Menu' Case settings' but did not have much time to get a setting that gave decent results. of the 5 laps of the last race i saw, i fired off about 200 shots..probably getting about 10% in focus.

Just wondering if there is anyone who has experience with the auto focus options for this type of movement...fast acceleration towards the camera with a small amount of left to right movement..Cyclists are in pack..so I am guessing that maybe I would have been better with the 9 point centre focus group, to prevent the focus tracking the first cyclist in view..and then following them by switching AF points

I am not going to even look at the price I paid for a recent purchase of a P&S but think it does com within your budget.

No viewfinder, SD cards, with Eye Fi support Olympus XZ-2. Various P&S 'Sceme modes'

The advantage of this camera is it has all the P&S modes ..but...big BUT..it does have manual operation too..and RAW if you wish..so she can use it as a P&S..and then if you are out and about and suddenly feel the need to be a bit more creative with it.

I bought mine as a work camera, to take in the cockpit with me..the 5D3 plus lenses is a bit much!!

I think the best place to start for review has to be DP review.

You can select many cameras and then view as side by side comparison as s chart..selecting features you and your wife want.

I just copy as they are and convert to DNG if needed ...say for something like LRTimelapse.

Just home now and have checked..Yes I do already have the Adobe DNG convertor 8.1. But previously i converted from within Lightroom.
So i tried converting with the standalone convertor...and still the orf files do not convert so Finder can preview them.

Tried changing the Adobe Convertor preferences to be more backward compatible..all the way back to 2.4 and still files converted from Olympus orf format to dng are not pre-viewable in Finder.
Do the same test with Canon cr2 files and they are viewable in finder.

So it looks like all DNG's are nto the same ..it depends on the source raw file

They can''t be universal if converting from different raw formats to DNG produces different files.

Mac Finder can preview DNG's converted, in Ligjtroom, from Canon Raw or Panasonic raw, but not from Olympus raw.

If I convert 3 raw files, in Lightroom, one Canon, one Panasonic, and one Olympus, they all convert to DNG's, but Finder can't read or preview the file from the Olympus, even though it is a DNG.
Other software, like LRTimelapse recognises the Olympus DNG, but not Findet

Have the latest Mac/ Aperture/Photoshop Raw convertor, had not recalled coming across a DNG convertor too, will take a look when next home.

So I am guessing that means that DNG's are not universal then... all the same. I was under the impression that the idea behind these 'digital negs' was that they became a 'universal raw'.

Just wondering if there was anyone able to shed light on this.

I have decided not to upgrade my Mac to the latest OS 10.8.4 as I do not like many features it has, as discussed previously.
So this means I can't update to theMac Camera Raw update to allow the Finder to show orf preview images.

But, I can get lightroom to work with and preview the orf files, so no issue.

I can get LR to convert the orf's to DNG, no problem.

But the DNG's from converted orf files still do not preview in Finder.

I thought DNG's were a universal format, but seemingly not.

Finder previews correctly other raw formats, that it supports natively, when converted to DNG's, but not DNG's from files it does not support.

I thought this odd as I thought DNG's were a 'universal' format

Yes, but once you have a JPEG you can't recover under/overexposed areas, improve sharpness etc etc.

I generally shoot both JPEG and RAW, and use the JPEG straight out for viewing on the PC. But if there are any shots that I want to full size print..then I have the raw to fall back on for a better quality print.

I am sure a lot of work went in to producing the mp3 compressed audio format.but it can sound crap when compared to a FLAC/ALAC or analogue file..

I can't imagine that nowdays people are still shooting RAW!

???

Odd comment...from what I am seeing, Raw is just taking off and more and more people are just starting to use it.

Hence the reason raw support on software is getting bigger and more common, and more camera now seem to have a raw option.

No, not Adobe, definitely Apple.

It was the Apple preview that was the problem in Finder.

It was to do with the iPhoto/Aperture/OSX Updates that the problem was. There is a Apple Camera Raw update/download for iPhoto/Aperture that is totally independent of Adobe

http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3825

Despite having Aperture 3 and iPhoto 11 installed, the updater was not finding and updating the Apple Digital Camera Raw updates.

After I found the Apple KB article I linked to above, and found and installed the 3.14 update manually, Finder preview came back, without having to have any Adobe products installed.

For some reason my previous installation had updated to a compatible Apple Camera raw version. but a clean instal of 10.6.8 did not promt the software to d/load the update.

It does not support the Olympus .orf format of the XZ-2 and that is nto going to be possible. The Apple Camera raw update that does support the XZ-2 is not compatible with 10.6.8
