Give a man a fully automatic gun with a full clip and let him fire as fast as he can. He hits the bulls eye once. Does this make him a marksman? Give a fully automatic camera with a burst mode to a monkey and when the card is full chances are there will be one or two good shots. Does that make the monkey a photographer? Of course not the monkey knows nothing about what he has done. Photography is an art and takes a long time if ever to master your art. All this reminds me of living in Rochester NY when Kodak was here. Everyone who worked there that had a camera called himself a photographer just because he worked at the big yellow box. There is more to photography than how fast you can shoot.

Here here, I agree 100 %. I have been shooting professionally since 1976. Mostly weddings ( over 3800), I have never used burst mode and never will for what I do there is no need. I still shoot the same way I learned, everything is manual. I am the photographer and the camera is a tool. As a tool I tell the camera what I want it to do not the other way around. Granted sports photography is a specialty and is fast moving but how many people hire a sports photographer to shoot their wedding or family portrait. I really doubt that a sports photographer could shoot a wedding. They have no idea of what they need to do or what to shoot or when to shoot. So why not just put the camera in burst mode and shoot until all their batteries are dead and miss the money shots as they are charging the batteries. Why not just shoot video and choose the best best frame from that. There is more to being a professional then shooting as many frame as you can.

Burst mode does not work with studio lights or with hot shoe flash equipment. They have to recycle the charge to reach full power. Even if you have equipment that can handle burst mode you have to allow them time to cool down or risk burning them out. There is no place in a studio for burst mode period.

I think you missed the point. What you are doing is not taking multi shots of the same pose you are changing each shot buy changing the angle and the lighting. I think what the poster is saying is taking the same shot over and over without changing anything. As a professional wedding photographer one of the first things I learned was take 2 shots of everything but always change it some way so they are not the same. Two reason fo doing this is One this increases your odds that if one doesn't come out good the other will,
but chances are you will get to sell able shots. The other reason is it is easier to tell one shot from the other. This was done mostly when comparing negatives before printing. Example ever try to choose the right negative where one person in a group blinked from two different negatives. This is not an issue with digital but it does teach you discipline. When shooting a wedding time is a premium so you have to move quick. Time is money both at the event as well as in post processing. The easier you make it for yourself the more time you have to move on. Learn to expect the unexpected and be prepared to capture it right the first time.

As a professional wedding photographer I spent a lot of time and money to learn my profession. I will tell the guest if they want to take pictures do so without flash also I tell them that they can have their time with the Bride & Groom after I'm done if time allows and the Bride & Groom are willing. Time is usually short to get what I need before we have to leave the church. I am being paid for my work and if I have to wait for the guest to take their pictures it takes time away from me. Besides I don't do the posing so others can get good shots those are mine. If they want to pose them after I'm done have at it. It's usually hot in the church and the bridal group have had enough by time I'm done. This is the Bride & Grooms day let them enjoy it. You'll have all the pictures you want at the reception.

Sedona is my favorite place to go for photo opts. Sun rise and sun sets are the best times to get the deep red in the Red Rock country Cathedral Rock is in Oak Creek just outside of Sedona. Just a short walk from the parking area down a dirt path. Bring a tripod for best results

I agree. I've spent a lot of time there and am planning on going back sometime this spring. Also make sure you go up to the Sedona airport. Great view of the red rocks especially at sun rise and sun set.

While in Sedona, I strongly suggest a 'Pink Jeep' tour, especially the 'Broken Arrow' trail:

I agree. Pink jeep tour is a must do in Sedona. Also cathedral rock. There are 2 ways to access this Vortex from the Byway. The easiest is drive north on the Byway from the Forest Visitor Center and take Verde Valley School Road (the road to your left or West at the second Roundabout) to almost the end, about 7 miles, where you'll see a parking lot on your left. Park and walk a very short distance to where the road deadends at Oak Creek. It's a beautiful, unforgettable spot.

The biggest problem that I see with your shooting is you are cutting the tops of peoples heads off. That is a big NO NO. Remember that and you will do fine.

I'm not sure about Elements, I use photoshop but should be the same. When you're ready to print select File go down to print. Click print settings. In that window chose Paper Config... use the slider for color density.

What PP software are you using? If you have an LCD screen set the ink output to -10 to -15%.

Hi there lensenvy- as you imply the routine is to have a routine and subject to human failure NEVER deviate from it.
My routine is return all camera and all equipment settings to my designated ones at the end of a shoot. I also check all camera settings and related equipment are at my designated settings at the start of a shoot.

What are my chosen designated camera settings (DSLR in this case)?

I set it so if all else fails I would probably get a shot by just picking up the camera and 'pointing and shooting' without thinking. This is just what I do....Aperture priority, default ISO (200) and f8, any 'one off' settings just used are zeroed and on relevant lenses I have vibration control 'on'
This is my default starting point and is of course my personal preference, you would need to work out yours... maybe just 'auto'... maybe shutter priority whatever... but once decided that is THE Law lol
Hi there lensenvy- as you imply the routine is to ... (show quote)

The first thing I learned when I became a wedding photographer is to set the camera to f8 @ 12 ft iso 100. If I have to change the f stop I automaticly reset to f8 @ 12 ft and depend on DOF after taking the shot. After a while you don't even think about it becomes automatic.

You are correct! It's funny that this was posted today. I had the same experience just yesterday with my insurance co. I am not afraid to name names. 21century( Farmers) I renewed my policy with them last month. My rate went from $465 per 6 months to $603 per 6 months. I paid it because I just didn't to deal with it. Yesterday I filled out a form on the internet for insurance rates and guess what, I received a quote from 21 century for $445.00 good for 30 days. I called them to ask why I paid $603.00 and I get a quote for $445.00 for the same coverage. I was told that their rates changed daily and I should be paying $639.00. I asked why the difference from the quote and was told that credit scores counted (my credit is excellent by the way) and the quote had gone up since the time I recieved it and the time I called. I told them that I just received the quote not 5 minutes ago. Needless to say I sign up with another company and canceled my policy on the spot.
