Emanuel Won't Act To Block Chick-fil-A
The effort of Chicago Ald. Joe Moreno (1st) to block a Chick-fil-A from entering his Northwest Side ward because the restaurant president is against gay marriage seemed to have the support Wednesday of Mayor Rahm Emanuel. However, Emanuel may be backing off from the fight, and at the very least has clarified his position.
An Emanuel spokesman told the Sun-Times Thursday that, "The mayor simply said that Chic-fil-A's CEO does not share Chicago's values."
"He did not say he would block or play any role in the company operating a new restaurant here," the spokesman said.
On Wednesday, Emanuel said that, "Chick-fil-A's values are not Chicago values", adding "If you're gonna be part of the Chicago community you should reflect Chicago values."
Council members are usually given the privilege of turning away a business they don't want in their ward. However, Moreno's explicitly stated reason for opposing Chick-fil-A could lead to a lawsuit.

LOL Sarge, as if the mayor can not create a multitude of permitting issues for CFA that would make the prospect fruitless, and of course that would never happen in Chitown world renown for its clean politics and political structure...
Legal redress? Governments love the courts, they have no problem spending taxpayer dollars to punish any who would seek redress against their overreach... It personally costs politicians and bureaucrats nothing to put citizens and businesses through muti-year long lawsuits that drain the private individuals or businesses of their hard earned cash while costing the government officials nothing, after all it is taxpayer monies that they are spending.
