There is a lot of good, sage advice coming in so I will confine my remarks to recommending a visit to a camera store that has a good inventory. Different tripods use different schemes to do leg extending & locking, to do head adjusting & locking. Try out the options to see what she likes best. It is possible to 'hate' a tripod no matter how highly rated.

Definitely AFTER. Fall colors vary from year to year based on the amount of rain, etc, but the colors change later the further north you go. Sounds like a wonderful time ahead of you. Enjoy!

Actually, the color changes begin earlier the further north you go. It has to do with length of day as a function of lattitude.

Morning Fog

Interesting in being able to capture several shades of gray in one shot. Up here in Minnesota I like to claim we can enjoy all shades of gray, from tinged rosy to tinged violet. First opportunity I'll try to grab an example.

Mac Back-up Success

Icons for both hard drives should appear on the Mac desktop. Open one drive, do select all then drag and drop onto the other hard drive icon. Apple Store Genius didn't know that. It has been standard Mac procedure from Mac OS 6 30 years ago.
