That white lens made him even more distracting. You'd think Canon would cover that primer coat up.

I think that whole painting thing was covered elsewhere LOL

I take a lot of pictures of dogs. Some are attracted by the shutter noise and some are distracted by it. That got me to thinking about how various cameras compare in that arena.

I am using a canon 20D which shoots pretty fast at about 6fps. It makes a fair amount of noise. Are some models or makes known to be quieter than others? When the time comes to replace this camera, what fast shooting camera might be one that would provide the quietest shutter?

Thanks for the feedback.

I would like to take a vacation to the Grand Canyon this year. Does anyone have any recommendations on photo tours?

I'd suggest going on the water. It is a lot of fun and you will see things there you will not see from above. For those who think it is too strenuous, the pic with the lady riding the pontoon is of my mother... the summer she turned 75! I sure hope those genes got passed down.

I'm coming to the realization that for every one photo curmudeon, there are 25 photo jokesters. Here is another example:

BTW if I post this on the 'links' page I don't get very many looks, If I post here, I get more hits then the moderator moves it to the links page. Since I'm looking to spread some laughter, I'll post here and wait for it to get moved.

Great idea! I'm going to be making a list of ways I use photography to make a difference in my life as well as others.

One way I have found is to hook up with a local animal shelter. It's amazing what a difference quality photos can make getting people to come in to see and adopt dogs. You also get to work with the other volunteers and the animals while learning about your camera.

They will want a commitment though that you will do it on an ongoing basis. I go in once or twice a week for an hour or less. Seth Casteel (secondchancephotos.org) gives free clinics around the country on his techniques and gives tips on his website.

I have so much to learn, but one thing this "assignment" has taught me is to look for ways to make people smile through pictures (or are they photographs?).

Looks like you were standing next to me! :-D Thats a pretty good shot if you ask me. Full Moon and these little slices are the hardest to get any detail in.
Erv

Erv,

Was that you? :D

You're right about the slices being hard to photograph, but better times are just ahead.

There's always Photoshop to make it interesting.

LOL - Now that's funny!

I share in the field. It's hard to get pictures of me and my dog when I am the one handling him. I share my picture of others in return. Other than that, Not at all.

Just for fun I looked at the Photozone resolution figures for the 50 1.4 - and they are 2598 center, 2382 edge at F4 which is the peak. For the 24-105 at 40mm and f5.6 the numbers are : 2406 / 2241 . All these numbers were done on a 5D II sensor. So, the 50 IS better and it is enough that it can be seen in your images !

Thank you very much!

The 50mm is the sharpest lens of any manufacturer - PERIOD. See kenrockwell.com for explanations.

I think I have seen that in my results, but there are different lens qualities. Canon has the 50 in a 1.8, 1.4 and also the L series. I was wondering if the better glass in the 24-105 L series would produce pictures equal to the non-L series 50-1.4

Thanks for the feedback

I have a 20d with 3 lenses
the kit lens 18-55, a Tamron zoom 28-300 and a Canon 50mm 1.4
I have fallen in love with the quality of the glass in the 50mm lens. I can actually get a better shot by cropping pictures from that lens than I can by framing with the zoom unless the light is really good.

I'm finding times when I need a shorter lens than the 50 and am considering the 24-105 f4 L lens.

My question is how will the image quality compare between the 50 1.4 (which is not an L series) and the 24-105 L series?

Your thoughts are appreciated.

I saw in a recent photoshop video that adobe is working on software to do this to regular pictures. It may be available in CS6 or later. Not the same concept, but still an amazing technology.
